View from the Student Section - A Perspective from Campus:

I hate this deathly sickness that I have right now. In fact, I am pretty sure I have whooping cough or some other serious illness that I should probably get checked out. However, when compared to the frozen tundra that is Syracuse, everything (even the plague) seems pleasant. And when I say I hate Syracuse, I primarily mean the basketball team and the pathetic craphole they call a school, but I really have begun to hate the city as well. In fact, I was out at Rugby the other night hitting on some chick, until I found out that she was from Syracuse, New York, I casually dismissed her from my presence.

I look forward to the battle that will determine if good triumphs over evil. Personally, I am going to be rooting for good. However, to all those Syracuse fans out there who dislike world peace and enjoy the suffering of innocent puppies, shame on you.

If Greg Monroe is out there reading this, throw down a dunk over Andy Rautins for me, and give him a nice incidental kick to the crotch on your way down. For Lent I am giving up losing to Syracuse. I want to see the orange crushed and turned into juice. Honestly, if anyone has a blender, let me know. We’re gonna Juice the ‘Cuse! Hoya Saxa!

View from the Court Side Seats - A Perspective from OldHoya:

OldHoya's lived a full life with plenty of Gtown highs and lows and therefore chooses to forget everything about the recent Syracuse and Rutgers debacles. In fact, what debacles? Let's move forward.

It's well documented that Syracuse is a cold desolate wasteland and frankly, OldHoya questions why anyone would ever want to live there. In the spirit of competition, OldHoya began wearing a casual Jim Boeheim mask to the games many years ago - back then, Boeheim loved the mask, told OldHoya that he looked better than Boeheim did, and even signed a poster where OldHoya was wearing the mask. Now - NOTHING. Clearly there is no sun and no reason to be happy in upstate. Pathetic.

We all know the stakes - this is the biggest game of the season, ESPN will be there, and this is a chance for the Hoyas to dominate. OldHoya gives a shout out to everyone on the list to be loud and demonstrative from the opening tip.

View from the Sportsbook (via DonBest) - A Perspective from Vegas:

The Line: Georgetown -2.  Over/Under 144.

That 2 point spread indicates that Vegas doesn't really have a clue as to what will happen.  Could Georgetown win by 15? YES.  Could Syracuse win by 15?  YES.

I wouldn't go anywhere near this game, but since I have to pick an outcome, let's look at a few relevant numbers:

 - Syracuse is 5-1 ATS in lined road games, and 13-6 ATS when playing against a team with a winning record.

 - Syracuse has been remarkable in road and neutral site games, going 9-0 SU and 8-1 ATS. The only failure to ‘cover’ was a 59-57 win over DePaul as 14 ½-point favorites.

 - Georgetown is 6-7 ATS against conference opponents, and 9-8 ATS when playing against a team with a winning record.

The pick is Syracuse +2, but I'll take the Hoyas to win in a squeaker so that everyone on the blog doesn't kill me.  Final score: Hoyas 73 - Orange 72.

Again, your money should go elsewhere on ANY OTHER GAME in ANY OTHER SPORT.  I will gladly exchange an ATS loss for a big Hoyas win tonight, but that damn 2-3 zone is a nightmare for Georgetown's offense.

On the season:

The Hoyas are currently 11-9 ATS (that's 'Against The Spread' for those just tuning in).

Georgetown is 4-3 ATS on the Road, 5-6 ATS at Home, and 2-0 on Neutral Courts.

Casual Hoya is 13-7 ATS.

Great analysis but

Isn’t this a clear case of statistics being WHOLLY misleading?

When Wright is getting his (to the tune of at least 10 a game), the team wins.

When Wright is having an off game (under 10 a game), the team is a disaster because he’s chucking the ball.

No way in hell I’m rooting for him to attack the basket to get wins.

Verdict

Have we decided whether the wizards at Hoya Prospectus are actually promoting good and fighting evil?

gotta agree w itsall

It just doesn’t feel right to encourage the Wrecking Ball. Great analysis, but conclusions defy what we’re seeing during the game.

I’m glad to see he’s passing, but he is forcing too many bad 3s that hurt his FG% in losses. Keep passing and don’t force bad shots, even if that means someone else is taking them.

Maybe we've inspired him

Cwright_4: I dedicate this to my hatas, cuz i appreciate ya..errytime i hear ya talkn down it make shine greata…Dem Hoyas REAL dis year!!

BeardedHoya speaks

A noted basketball analyst, yet still afraid to post on the GLOBAL PHENOMENON speaks thusly:

I don’t actually see a big difference in his shot selection (in terms of conventional wisdom of what is a good shot and what is a bad shot, and shots coming within the flow of the offense and shots that are forced) in games where he is scoring well and games where he’s not. Obviously, his percentage of perimeter shots is higher in bad games than in good, but to my recollection I don’t think that his percentage of “bad” perimeter shots is higher (in fact I’d argue the opposite, since he knows when he’s feeling it he is guaranteed to take at least a couple heat checks). I, of course, have no statistical evidence to back this up, but it seems to me that he takes some ill-advised shots and some good shots every game (and I do think his shot selection has been pretty good overall this year).

I think what the analysis linked shows, and my personal experience also supports, is that Chris is simply not a good shooter. He’s the definition of a streak-shooter. When he’s hot he doesn’t miss, when he’s cold he can’t hit an open shot to save his life. The problem is, not surprisingly, he can’t or won’t admit this, so he continues to shoot from the perimeter when he’s off.

I think the solution is to get him to learn that even a wide open perimeter jumper is not a “good” shot if he’s not shooting well – shot selection is not black and white with Chris, a good shot one day can be a bad shot the next. In those situations when he’s not feeling it he has to do something different, whether it is drive to the hoop to shoot or pass or simply wait til the defense recovers and continue to move the ball.

I specifically remember against South Florida, Chris missed his first few and I told my buddies that I hope he just stops shooting because he is clearly going to have one of those games where he just can’t hit a shot. I don’t remember him shooting that much or having particularly bad shot selection (in the common sense of the term, obviously I’m advocating for a sliding scale on shot selection when it comes to Chris), but I do remember when we were mounting a comeback (the mere need for which against USF is frightening) he missed a wide open broken floor look from three in the corner to tie the game. For any basketball player at that level it was a good open look that you HAVE TO take. For Chris on a night when he clearly doesn’t have his shot working it’s simply not a good look and we are better off with him driving to the basket.

I would like to see him be more aggressive in attacking the basket when he’s not shooting well, but only at the expense of his “open” perimeter shots. I don’t think he should be more aggressive than he is when he is playing well, but simply as aggressive in attacking the hoop. This season, I think it’s been the opposite – when he isn’t shooting well, he still takes open looks but, perhaps because they don’t go in, he is less likely to take the ball to the hoop or (preferably) make a strong cut to the hoop to receive a pass.

Really looking forward to tomorrow’s Abacus Award as we analyze the sliding scale of Chris Wright’s shot selection.

Riley scores this game

either 1) because hoyas have blown them out
            2) or the wrecking ball gets so pissed that he gets three straight charges to avoid having to pass, and on the last one plows into Monroe who gets hurt. Thus Hoyas are down 28 at half, so Riley gets some burn.

Hard to see how #2 is still not the more likely scenario.

California Dreams

Vastly underrated show that featured career-ending performances by the entire cast.

I do not see us winning a squeaker.

If we win, we win by 5+. I think we play terribly in games we do not jump ahead (ignoring the Temple game)

pink georgetown power tie: ON

solid four in hand knot
YOU MUST BELIEVE

I am 12-8 ATS. I am in freefall, like Chris Wright. But tonight it all changes. The pick is GEORGETOWN -2. All will be well. It must be. It has to be.

AVOID THIS GAME!

Instead put all of your money on Lindsey Vonn falling in her 2nd run today in the combined slalom to piss away a shot at a medal.

Trust me…NBC hasn’t even aired it yet so it hasn’t even happened.

JTIII's comments on game 1

http://ncaabasketball.fanhouse.com/2010/02/18/no-looking-past-this-one-for-georgetown-syracuse/

Coach John Thompson III believes that coach Jim Boeheim simply changed the password, making adjustments that took away the wide-open jumpers — including three 3-pointers by Austin Freeman — Georgetown rode to its early lead. "They know how to shut down what you’re trying to attack,‘’ he said. "There are only so many things you can do. We need to counter their comeback to how we attack their keys. It’s a cat-and-mouse game.’’

I guess this means we might actually see in-game adjustments tonight…maybe

The definition of insanity

…is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Or being a voluntarily going to Syracuse

Erin Andrews

Sideline reporters are stupid but she’s keeping it casual. She just interviewed chris wright. Unclear whether they discussed hoya prospectus analysis

Fucking disaster

She’s now talking to Gerry McNamara

COME ON!

Take a pic of her!

can't believe i am still stuck at work

Concerned with 1) the amount of orange currently in lower bowl and 2) the atrocious outside shooting displayed by hoyas in warmups.

Do like the Wale warmup music though

Vitale

Just took his seat

"Concerned with 1) the amount of orange currently in lower bowl"

Already looking forward to JGD’s postgame rant on how awful the students are for selling their tix after we lose this game by 75 points.

400

A sea of orange. Disaster

NBA scouts

About ten here. Hire will likely chat them up like he did with seton hall

Erin Andrews

Casual shimmery black top

disaster looms

Sounds like a ton of Cuse fans are there.

Loud for Cuse

That sucks.

2 good fouls for Monroe

Good God man

good work AD!

“there are thousands of Orange fans here”

Monroe fouls

Does he really have 2? I thought that 1st one was on Vaughn…

Sims!

Checking in 4 minutes into the game. Zone buster?

definition

by ‘zone buster’ do you mean ‘suck monster’?

Nope

Thompson comes to his senses

Hey everyone

This is pretty bad so far!

3 13 w 16

not a bad start

Start drafting that Ode to McNamara...

Not looking good

Wright has 5

5 more til a win

When Dickie V calls for a foul, you know someone got mugged

Crowd sounds like they’re ready to riot against the officials

smart foul by clark

always wise to foul rautins while shooting a 3

can someone give me a reason to continue watching?

Man Andy Rautins is like killing us
PUT SIMS IN THE GAME

AND CLOTHESLINE RAUTINS

Sims for 2!

The comeback begins!

That just happened
heady play by clark

always wise to be standing out of bounds waiting for a pass

It was a good look by Wright though

We have an incredibly challenging time scoring points against Syracuse

um

Will anyone care if I C-punch a Cuse fan?

Biden

Glad he took some time out of his schedule to catch the game at Verizon along with the 5,000 Syracuse fans

Is Clark drunk?

That was an awful call also

smart play by clark

always a good move to try to drive through 2 Cuse players into a corner

Clark an early candidate for Brandon Bowman Award

I'd love to see Syracuse play a game at Duke

I’m pretty sure they’d have half the team fouled out by halftime.

3 on that monster retard

Yay

Did Vitale just hit on Andrews?
10 for Wright

That’ll do it.

WRIGHT HAS 10

GAME OVER

Man there are a lot of ticky tack fouls on both sides
haha Casual you got your wish
That wasn't a great minute for Big Hank
Forget Rautins

JT3 needs to send a white walk-on into the game to punch McNamara.

Analyze the numbers all you want, but

Georgetown is losing because we don’t have good players.

ronald mcdonald thought so
bad hamburgers
im afraid of clowns

I dare not speak ill of their leader

Austin is really off
That's a pretty awful call

Let them play, Jesus

One beacon of light

Fouls are really piling up on ’Cuse

HOLY SHIT STOP CALLING ALL THESE FUCKING FOULS
We have some unbelievably bad TOs today
thank you!

I will hit a man with glasses
peroni not working

May switch to Stela.

stella not going to work either

do they have ‘how to beat a 2-3 zone ale’?

I never want to play with them again

GET OFF OUR PROPERTY

SOMEONE BREAK HIS HAND

DOUGHERTY WHAT ARE YOU THERE FOR

RAUTINS DOWN

FINALLY

CRY RAUTINS CRY

GO HOME I HATE YOU YOU STUPID CANUCK

Good news

We are playing as bad as we possibly can. Very similar to the UConn game. I have a weirdly good feeling

oh

Freeman remembered how to shoot a basketball. May switch to Miller lite for the VOLUME. Going to be a long night.

They are shooting 54 percent, we are shooting 30

We will start hitting shots, they will start missing shots.

Monroe played about 7 minutes. He can play more now.

4 of their 5 starters have 2+ fouls

Freeman, Clark and Vaughn are a combined 2-17. It can’t get worse.

can't get worse?

weren’t you AT the rutgers game?

Yeah but that was lazy

This is just not hitting shots. It’s different. I swear

shut it down

Sliding 3 seed, likely end up a 4 seed after loss to WVU and Lville.

Casual 4-13 game in 1st round against Cornell.

LOSS.

I may just

casually gauge my eyes out.

How do you do that so cleanly
top 10 team

Monroe has 1 field goal.

Vaughn and Clark are 0 for 8.

Cuse Fans

I was just in the concourse outside of my section at halftime. I can’t believe how many syracuse fans are here. Ridiculous.

That sucks

How does that happen every single year? I blame Rhino for being a cuse bar

Game always seems to be on a weekday

I’m sure that has a lot to do with it.

Horrible, horrible call

What the hell are the refs on tonight?

These refs are so bad

On both sides. Unreal

smart play by clark

always a good decision to blow a layup

I want someone to hurt Rautins.

I don’t care who it is, a fan, Jack, the male cheerleader, Dougherty, Joe Biden, DeGoia. I don’t care. Someone hurt him.

if i were at this game

i would leave.

This is just brutal
If you leave

Don’t go to Rhino

THE BENCH

NICE AIRBALL HOLLIS!

ALMOST AS NICE AS HENRY’S EARLIER!

This team is really starting to hurt me
I DEMAND

AN IMMEDIATE END TO THE JINX THAT IS THE CASUAL LOCK OF THE DAY

it isn't a jix if you...

BET THE OTHER WAY.

However, I will take this under advisement.

These refs are ruining a horrible game.
ordering sushi

anyone want anything?

Crunchy spicy salmon por favor
Mmmm...sushi

I could really drown my sorrows in some Toro right about now.

No words for this

Worst I’ve felt since last season. Unreal.

the order

Going with a nice Sashimi Deluxe.

No need for all that rice.

The worst part

…is that now Erin Andrews thinks we stink.

yea but she went to UF

not into chicks in the dairy industry

Do I still have a chance with her?
id say you have a chance with anyone who has a sextape

but maybe not KK

Question

If you had a chance to get with Erin Andrews, but to do that you had to wear a Syracuse jersey (Devendorf) to the game tonight and sit in the student section….would you do it?

Yes

Are you stupid

you should ask UF's offensive line
LOL

She likes the fat guys.

loves
I don't get it?
How much ya bench?
EA went to UF, was some sort of cheerleader

I just assumed the football team had their way with her. The worst most degrading being the O-Line.

As a former O-Lineman in college

I just wanted to hear that she had low standards

salvage the night

My guess is that she’s staying at the Ritz tonight.

Anyone know someone who can drill a hole in the door?

I know some linemen at tech

iv heard their hot tub is crazier than Wilbon’s

Well I guess it's settled

It’s time to fire John Thompson III, dissolve our basketball program, and commit mass, ritualistic suicide.

question

What team is Benimon playing for?

Good

Glad we all agree on that.

theres a great WE ARE MARSHALL/Georgetown joke somewhere to be found
Rautins has been unbelievable tonight

Freeman has shot it as bad as Rautins has been good

65-60

I’m not saying a damn thing

*cough*
just sayin'

dajuan summers misses that dunk

But makes the free throws
Greg Monroe

Like velvet.

shut up shut up shut up
FUNDAFUCKINGMENTALS
Figures

46 fouls called, and it came down to missed free throws.

I don’t care what people say about him, Monroe doesn’t make them when it counts.

heady play by clark

always a good move to miss a wide open 3 that would have given the hoyas the lead AND then follow it up by missing 1st free throw to essentially put game out of reach.

what a stunningly awful game for j duece-uno or whatever it is that he calls himself.

the good news...

1) Casual Hoya now 14-7 ATS.

2) Leaving office to pick up sashimi deluxe.

Joe Biden says...

You guys suck

That is a handsome man.

It’s an honor to be called that by him.

To quote the hangover:

“You are too stupid to insult”

Okay, I don't even know what to do with this

It’s like the first Nova game, except then we had a chance at redemption. This just feels – above all – like a blown opportunity.

Too late in the season for moral victories.

Well… we still aren’t the first two seed to lose to a 15. That has to count for something….

And yes, Good triumphes over Evil
mediocre

go home

Good triumphs over mediocre?

I guess that would be accurate as well.
