Casual Hoya

FanShot

There are courts named after Gene Keady, Bobby Cremins, John Kresse, Lute Olson and Pete Newell, which are all justly deserved. But none of those outstanding coaches won more titles than [John] Thompson, and none were firsts. Just because the Verizon Center is a pro building doesn't mean Georgetown cannot put a name on the floor. Thompson is a Hall of Famer and one of the finest coaches the game has produced. He is a principled man and one of the smartest people I have ever been around. He should have his name on a floor, at the very least.

Jay Bilas asks the hard hitting questions - Why is there no court named after John Thompson.

good point

Leonsis should be able to remedy this within MINUTES.

Before or after he mops the place?

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/dcsportsbog/2010/07/leonsis_promises_to_mop_verizo.html

instead of mopping the floors...

1) cheaper beers that are sold well into the 2nd half

2) more casual headbands

3) ushers who don’t pester you for your ticket stub EVERY TIME YOU RE-ENTER YOUR SECTION

4) more casual headbands

ushers in my section are great

i dont even show my ticket to enter the section for the first time

Damn straight.

Witha and Arnold are amazing (I FINALLY got my picture with Witha at the end of last season). I love 118.

i almost got arnold to do an interview with us

then he realized there was no upside for him

witha rocked a casual headband for the cincy game
Not sure why...

…but I never get asked for my ticket twice.

name the practice facility after him?
i thought The Hoya had reported that it would be named the Casual Practice Facility
Agreed

We have our own floor at Verizon already. Might as well just name it after Thompson.

I hope Teddy

will tell the geezers in the box behind section 121 (invariably fans of the opposition) to grow a pair this year and tell me to sit down rather than tell the usher to tell me…even though there is a wall behind me, and they basically sit above me, so they can see everything already. After 4-5 Casual Heinekens at the Channel followed by a few at the game, I’m usually a little cranky. And no, that has nothing to do with being outrebounded by 15 by Lehigh or whomever. Unfortunately the f bombs start getting dropped at that point, and they just don’t stop. It just ruins everybody’s time.

the biggest question is

DOES LEONSIS READ THIS BLOG?

he reads SBN blog jasper’s rink and is an investor in SBN.

this is a question for haines

I think the answer lies in the fact that no one loves to celebrate Goliath, no matter how impressive his achievements. Thompson’s 1980s Hoyas were seen as bullies and foils for scrappy underdogs like Villanova. It was fun to root against Patrick Ewing, Alonzo Mourning, and Dikembe Mutombo. Giants are meant to be felled.

However, lost amidst all that noise is the fact the John Thompson has done more for the game of basketball in Washington than any other figure. He deserve to be honored for his accomplishments, the least of which would be naming a court in his honor. If Abe Pollin merits a street in the District, well John Thompson should at least have a statue.

Is John Thompson Getting A Raw Deal In D.C.?
