GO!
Hire Esherick - April 27, 2011
is DSR
the better pg option for JT3 rather than KA, due to the fact I see KA being more of a point-forward more than anything else!
Big Spoon - April 27, 2011
i think that is right
york is blowing up right now – gtown needs to get in front of him quickly
Hire Esherick - April 27, 2011
The question is...
does JT3 wants to go with another under 6’2" pg or does he want to go big with DSR, I think rebounding and better perimeter D is the recipe at the moment!
Big Spoon - April 27, 2011
true
bigger question is do any of the above guards want to play at gtown. all have indicated some interested in the school but it is far from a done deal.
ill take any, including semaj christon
Hire Esherick - April 27, 2011
DSR although listed taller
is said to be about 6-1. Both DSR and York are really shooting guards. The bigger question is will they develop the playmaking abilities to be able to run a team…
yaboynyp - April 27, 2011
PT
So with all the talent that we have coming in does anbody forsee us still playing 6 man ball?
Melvin M. Tuggle III - April 27, 2011
There shouldn't be any reason
for JT3 to just relying on 6 players to make things happen, he has to learn how to trust his players by letting them play, and not over-relying on his system!
Big Spoon - April 27, 2011
If Kyle wants to come here
We take him over everyone. A lot of experts from Coach Hurley, Adam Zagoria, and Nolan Shulman all say he is perfect for our system. He has played PG for Playaz and according to him that’s what he wants to play in college. Kid puts up numbers across the board, and is capable of getting a triple double on any night. Typical night for Kyle 14points 10boards 7 assists, a stat sheet stuffer in the words of my man Clark Kellog. More, and maybe most importantly, after watching him for about 2 minutes in a live situation you will just realize “he gets it”. He thinks the game faster than most people see it, is a cerebral player and understands what he needs to do to get the W…
He is a solid defender and has held players like Gilchrest, and Austin Rivers in check. To me he is priority number one, but as we all now we don’t pick the kids, the kids choose us. All three are talented and would be welcome additions
yaboynyp - April 27, 2011
I thought
that he was enamored with Seton Hall and or Arizona?
Big Spoon - April 27, 2011
he might still be
but gtown is definitely still in the picture, so is st, johns
Hire Esherick - April 28, 2011
DEPTH.............
My issue with GTown has been with the lack of depth coming off the bench!!! JT3 needs to play everybody in order to keep the harmony as well as keeping the opponents guessing.
I know this guys doesn’t sound like much but I’m going to throw his name out there one more time and then I’ll leave it alone. I’m only looking at what he could bring to the table as far as ball handling, 3 point shooting, and only for the 2011 season. Trinson White is a 6-4 175lbs SG, with promise, he doesn’t rate high on the ESPN 2011 prospects but neither did Jeff Green.
Melvin M. Tuggle III - April 27, 2011
Mention commitments in OP
I know we all know Porter committed to us since his visit and Ochefu to Nova, but I think you should list them so everybody’s on the same page.
NewsToTom - April 27, 2011
sim bhullar to xavier
http://www.therecruitscoop.com/sim-bhullar-commits-to-xavier
havent heard much about him for last couple of months but glad he isnt playing in big east.
Hire Esherick - April 29, 2011
Agreed
I thought they wanted to come in as a team package!
Big Spoon - April 29, 2011
Kyle Anderson
From Dave Telep at ESPN:
“Seton Hall does the best job at recruiting me,” Anderson said. “It’s short phone calls and (timely) when they come see me. Them and Georgetown do a great job. I speak to Coach [John] Thompson for three minutes and that’s it. Little things like that make it better.”
UCLA, Florida, St. John’s, Arizona and Xavier are also coming strong for Anderson. After reading this, they’d be wise to save minutes on their cell plans and more importantly, Anderson’s time on the phone. However, we’re particularly interested in seeing how schools handle him because of his unique abilities as a passer with size and vision. Would he pick a place that has an established point guard?
yaboynyp - May 1, 2011
Honestly
The Hoyas would be the best team for him due to the system of passing and back door cuts, especially for his size he could be so versatile and cause serious matches across the board, the question is would JT3 want to play more of a slower pace due to his size if he was to commit to the Hoyas?
Or pretty much play more of a high post offense and create open looks at the top of the key to shoot mid range to open 3’s with screens?
Big Spoon - May 1, 2011
Brandon Bolden..
From Rivals EYBL Dallas
Brandon Bolden (2012, Team Florida)- A promising prospect, Bolden is the prototypical wiry, long, athletic four-man with a developing skill game. If he applies himself in the weight room and is serious about his skill development, he will have a successful career at Georgetown.
and Osama Bin Laden is dead.. wow
yaboynyp - May 1, 2011
is he more of a 'project'
like big Roy?
Big Spoon - May 1, 2011
Not really
Supposedly has all the tools, but for whatever reason it hasn’t added up to production… He seems very fluid not mechanical like Roy was, is athletic, just hasn’t put up numbers. Could be the fact that in highschool bigs don’t get a lot of touches, for instance Rak Christmas averaged about 10 ppg last year and is a top 20 guy
yaboynyp - May 1, 2011
Tony Parker same event
Tony Parker (2012, Georgia Stars)- Parker is playing an aggressive brand of basketball as a scorer and rebounder. When he is focused and in attack mode, he is a productive and reliable big man. Since his game isn’t based on athleticism, Parker is best when he brings a physical and grinding mentality to the court.
yaboynyp - May 1, 2011
DSR same event
D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera (2012, Spiece)- Smith-Rivera continues to impress. He moves seamlessly between both guard positions, and has a fearlessness to his game. His command of the game and his physical attributes indicate that he will be playing productive basketball for years to come.
yaboynyp - May 1, 2011
Hammonds.. Roy's boy from Indiana
A.J. Hammons (2012, Spiece)- Hammonds has typically been that big guy that left you wanting more out of him. It looks like this is becoming less the case with him. He does need to play tougher on a consistent basis, but Hammonds now looks more comfortable asserting himself on the court and is becoming more productive. With his size and mobility, he has a high ceiling.
yaboynyp - May 1, 2011
Semaj Christon

yaboynyp - May 2, 2011
Thanks for the info
hopefully JT3 can grab a 1 or 2 of them!
Big Spoon - May 2, 2011
We've already got one
I’ll take DSR too though
Coach K's kneepads - May 2, 2011
would take anderson and christon next year. to go along with bolden.
it is putting a lot of weight on adams to develop into a true center though.
Hire Esherick - May 3, 2011
Anderson
if he stays at point, we will be the tallest team in the country
Coach K's kneepads - May 3, 2011
Indeed
however I don’t want them to be the ‘slowest’ team as well in certain spots on the floor.
This would be very interesting if Anderson and Christon come on board!
Big Spoon - May 3, 2011

Brandon Bolden Not Ranked
yaboynyp - May 4, 2011
Semaj Christon
From where he came from last summer to now, and the fact that he’s prep’n this year, you just get the feeling that 1) Scouts really haven’t seen him and 2) He will be a rated higher at the end of the year based on the fact that there are not a lot of elite PG’s in the 2012 field
yaboynyp - May 4, 2011
agree
i like him a lot. not sure if he or anderson would be better.
we have two more schollies for 2012 assuming hollis leaves next year
Hire Esherick - May 4, 2011
3 with the Bennimonster leaving
yaboynyp - May 4, 2011

Hire Esherick - May 4, 2011
DSR/Semaj
will do well
Big Spoon - May 5, 2011
DSR going to Oak Hill
Last time I heard about a point guard we want going to Oak Hill, he ended up choosing the Dookies.
http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/recruiting/player/news/_/id/77077/dvauntes-smith-rivera
Be(a)st of the Big East - May 9, 2011
Do we get any love from Oak Hill, historically?
Be(a)st of the Big East - May 9, 2011
Nope
Basically it means we’re almost certainly out of the running for DSR.
Guess we focus on York and Semaj now.
Julian did attend Oak Hill, but we only got him after a transfer. Don’t know the last recruit we got directly from them. I know the last one we tried to get was Roscoe Smith. And I think you can tell by the way that recruitment went down and where he ended up why kids who go to oak hill don’t end up at Georgetown.
hoyasincebirth - May 9, 2011
I think you are right
Also we were on DSR early before the Xavier commit, I would have thought if we were going to get him it would been right after the decommit. The longer it the recruitment streches, the less chance I think we have. Semaj has academic issues though right ?
bunk moreland - May 9, 2011
or what about the other pg
from Dematha BJ Anya (sp?), as option B for a pg if Semaj or DSR isn’t coming this way, also is the Hoyas still in contention with Anderson as well?
Big Spoon - May 9, 2011
Anya
is the roly-poly 6’"7" center. James Robinson is roly-poly PG from DeMatha.
Would rather have Trawick try to play point than James Robinson.
bunk moreland - May 9, 2011
oops never mind
the hoyas don’t need a oliver miller 2.0
Big Spoon - May 9, 2011
I dont mind
roly-poly big men. They usually do ok in college – Oliver Miller, Tractor Traylor; heck look at Sweetney. If Anya (2013) continues to develop I would not mind seeing him in Blue and Gray.
Frankly Adams even is a bit of the same, but with more muscle, less touch.
bunk moreland - May 9, 2011
we don't need
to lose them from a bball scholarship (Big East) to a football scholarship (Patriot League), we need some muscle on the blocks.
also I wanted to correct myself I was thinking of Betancourt instead of Anya
Big Spoon - May 9, 2011
At this point
I would go all in on York. I prefered DSR but at this point that seems to be sailing and i too and wary of semaj’s academic issues. There are rumors that even with this prep year he might not qualify.
hoyasincebirth - May 9, 2011
Interesting fact
Semaj going to the same prep school in Conn as Andre Drummond… Semaj will get it together
yaboynyp - May 9, 2011
york over anderson?
Hire Esherick - May 9, 2011
not over necessarily. York is a combo guard so if we can get anderson he can play the 2 if we don’t get anderson he can slide over and play point. We need a small guard even if we get anderson unless we want to exclusively play zone.
hoyasincebirth - May 9, 2011
this report says kyle anderson is seton hall's to lose
http://www.nbebasketball.com/w3/2011-0509/recruiting-coming-under-focus-for-kyle-anderson-jr/
Hire Esherick - May 9, 2011
If he goes to Seton Hall
I’ll eat a Nigerians shoe after he’s walked 25 miles under the hot beating African sun in the summer time with no socks on… What recruits is he talking about that Seton Hall has?? lol Out of their seven recruited players for next year none are currently ranked on any recruiting database… none… If he wants to stay local he would have to have better options than Seton Hall….
yaboynyp - May 9, 2011
Seton Hall
is selling the backyard treatment to him, they obviously need to make some moves to become relevant at this point.
this offense (Prince-Town) for KAnderson is perfect for him to utilize, b/c he can be effective across the board, hopefully he’ll see it this way
Big Spoon - May 9, 2011

There is nothing like the family feeling...
but seriously when does JT3 start to pitch for better facilities? Something has to give in certain matters in order for the school to excel further along.
Big Spoon - May 14, 2011
think the pitch has started
and there are already designs for one to be built on the tennis courts.
question is, when does fundraising start and who makes the big donation to start the process
Hire Esherick - May 14, 2011
Big donations you ask
Clinton, Ewing, Iverson….
somebody, anybody?
Big Spoon - May 14, 2011
Shooter...
Runs with the Gauchos and he can shoot it with the best of them…But that’s about it. I think the staff is looking for a knockdown shooter to add some balance to the roster
yaboynyp - May 15, 2011
also listed
as a 6’1’’ sg, so I don’t know where would he fit a pg w/out handles or a sg in pg’s body who would be very limited in certain areas.

Who has a better handle?
Davis or Bernardi?
hoyasincebirth - May 15, 2011

haha nice
looking at who he follows on twitter one of which is Alan Stein
Who is a local professional strength and conditioning coach. S & C is definitely an area that the team could improve in. I don’t know how good he is, but based on following the dematha coach it seems like they use him. I don’t know if this guy is an improvement over what we have. But we need an upgrade in that position.

In all honesty you never know how someones career will pan out, but you gotta love the will to get better, and the fact that he will be a 19 year old frosh can’t hurt either.

Interesting story on Markel's recruitment from
http://everymonthmarch.wordpress.com/2011/05/18/unc-recruit-values-spelling/
It reminds me of a story I was told about current Georgetown guard Markel Starks’ recruiting process. Starks was very highly recruited out of Georgetown Preparatory School, and one night he was attending a function with his coach where he spotted the head coach of one of the programs that was most aggressively recruiting him.
His coach said, "Go up and introduce yourself and say hello."
So he did. When he came back to his coach, he said, "That guy had no idea who I was." And, in that moment, Starks, who knew that John Thompson III knew very well who he was, had his mind made up about where he was going to school.
yaboynyp - May 19, 2011
ok
i dont get it.
Hire Esherick - May 19, 2011
My buddy posted that
in response to the Duke recruiting letter to P.J Hairston that had T.J. or D.J. or something. Making a point about how you would think a contending school like Duke wouldn’t make that mistake.
Related the Duke story to one of Markel’s top choices head coach not even knowing who he was. Markel made his decision on the spot then because JT III actually knew who he was and interacted with him at the event.

Was literally talking to a Rutgers grad 3 days ago about Cox
He was pumped how much he had done for recruiting up there…I told him, “Love him while you have him…he’ll bolt for another job within 3 years”…no sour grapes on my part, that’s just what he does. Now there are rumors he is trying to latch onto Memphis?
brandonbowmansfootistoobig - May 25, 2011
Memphis?
is Rutgers not a good fit for Cox?
Big Spoon - May 26, 2011
Cox is always looking for his next job
literally the day he starts he starts looking for the next landing spot. It’s just his nature.

he’s seriously unstable.

Anderson Tweets
KyleAnderson5 Kyle Anderson
Ryan harrow not goin to St johns keeps them on my list. For everyone asking
Basically the moral of the story is if you want Anderson you better not sign another high profile PG.

Semaj Christon visiting this weekend via allenxis
hoyasincebirth - June 8, 2011
do we hope for a christon commit? what will it mean for chances with anderson, dsr and robinson?
i say take him, he is under the radar but we need as much depth at guard as possible next year.
Hire Esherick - June 9, 2011
It depends
what are are the Hoyas lookin’ for? A actual team player (ie, under the radar player like Semaj) or a potential star (Anderson/DSR/Robinson) who can perhaps take the program into the next level (ie, further along into the tourney).
Actually I hope JT3 keeps the Dematha pipeline going with Robinson.
Big Spoon - June 9, 2011
i would be very happy with christon and robinson
but that will leave just one left in 2012 and two in 2013
Hire Esherick - June 9, 2011
Keep in mind that
‘TRANSFERS’ or early NBA exits may occur as well for 2013, so therefore we shall see…
Big Spoon - June 10, 2011
Anderson switching to the Forward position
http://www.zagsblog.com/2011/06/10/kyle-anderson-moving-to-wing-this-summer/
So now does this mean ‘more options’ now for JT3 and hopefully grab Robinson or Christon to be the legitimate PG for the future?
To be continued…..
Big Spoon - June 11, 2011
narrowed list to
seton hall, st johns, georgetown, ucla and florida.
hopefully jt3 is pitching him as the next jeff green.
Hire Esherick - June 11, 2011
2 ways to look at this
He and his father came to a realization he can’t play PG full time at the collegiate level and are embracing the point forward role. or some dream school of his not currently on his list (UNC for possible example) wants to see him at the forward spot and is willing to do so for a dream school if it means an offer.
Or it means nothing.
Stupid recruiting.
Literally every single thing can be dissected and examined as either being a positive or negative indication. But a lot of it probably means nothing.
hoyasincebirth - June 11, 2011
Come to think of it
the Hoyas DO NOT need another SF in the mix, so therefore perhaps he’ll drop off the Hoyas radar soon?
Big Spoon - June 12, 2011
From the Nova blog
Anderson is down to 5 (Hoyas are still in the mix)

On a side note Bolden’s really pushin Gtown hard to Freeman
yaboynyp - June 13, 2011
thats good to hear
because they were rumors that bolden might be wavering.
i really like his potential
Hire Esherick - June 13, 2011
So I see that
this comes as a ‘packaged’ deal with the Hoyas if they grab Freeman due to Bolden’s influence?
It’s good that the Hoyas have ‘many options’ on the table….
Big Spoon - June 13, 2011
Need more info?????
At 6-4 and 210 lbs he’s got great size for the PG postion. Although I haven’t seen much on this kid on You Tube, he sounds like a another Jabril Trawick.

Why
Take a transfer if we’re in the hunt for Anderson, Semaj, and DSR?
lahoya - June 18, 2011 via mobile
Wow
this is crazy indeed, I’m all for the Hoyas with their options, however I think the more pressing issue that needs to be met is at the pg posistion. The Hoyas at the moment don’t need anymore SF’s in the mix. Unless more ‘transfers’ (the dreaded word) are being brought up again.
To be continued…
Big Spoon - June 18, 2011
Maybe just for a year???
Several things are at play here, one Brian Oliver hails from Oak Hill Academy and two he is a Cuse killer. Looking at his bio he is a hell of a three point shooter, dropping 99 3’s in his two year career at GT, 32 of those points were against the orange. This is a little risky for the furture, but the recruiters seem to know what they are doing, (I hope)!!!!
Melvin M. Tuggle III - June 18, 2011
Not a great shooter..
He’s a volume shooter. Shot below 30 percent from 3 last year.
yaboynyp - June 18, 2011

Kirby is showing consistency with each recruit in regards giving the Hoyas a chance to having a say in consideration, so I guess it’s time to move on to Pollard ‘another SF’ to embark on!

Sounds like we are still after DSR (said Gtown visiting tomorrow).
I hope so, I like DSR. I know folks are not as high on him because of limited athetiscm but I think he could be a good combo guard. I like him a lot more than James Robinson. I would be happy with DSR, Bolden and Tony Parker as the class.

Its like a buffet at the top.......
Had to break out my note-pad and look at all the possibilities that GTown has between the 3,4,and 5 position. With the addition of Kyle Anderson (crossing my fingers), I’m hoping that the speculation of other players joining him comes true. I would like to see another beefy PF come our way, maybe Tony Parker. But with that said, how many scholarships will be available for 2012, and lets not forgett that this will probably be Hollis last year.
Melvin M. Tuggle III - September 10, 2011
Also include
someone possibly transferring, as we know how the Hoyas under JT3 track record consist of. So pretty much 2 available scholarships are sitting there calling on Anderson/Parker or

Just now going to Duke at the end of the month. C’est la ve. Long Live Upshaw, Meeks or some other big man.

Was scheduled to come this past saturday. Obviously he was less a priority once DSR signed on. Assume the same with Kenyi but I have not seen anything on him.

Blaise Mbargorba
verballed to SMU according to scout. We were somewhat involved. 2012 6’11" from Cameroon, same handler as Moses. Maybe backing off Blaise means we are closer with Upshaw – who did not committ Louisville despit being their only recuit to MM after DSR and Andrew White (NC State) pulled out at the last minute.

Official Visits!!!!
Is there a limit, per the NCAA, of visits that a university can partake in and if so are we at our limit?
Melvin M. Tuggle III - October 24, 2011
Good question
from what I understood is that there is a certain ‘dead period’ where the potential recruit can come on campus, however no member of the coaching staff can get in contact of that individual.
Big Spoon - October 24, 2011
dont think there is a limit on visits for schools
there are for recruits, though.
there are definitely dead periods

University of Louisville on Robert Upshaw
White > Upshaw
Don’t blow it by making him feel he is not your first priority, call the kid up and tell him he is your priority and you want him to be the next star for cardinals
When you look at Upshaw’s list most of the schools are california ones anyway, seems like the kid wants to stay home – so don’t blow it with White!!
by I WantReeceBack! on Oct 13, 2011 9:36 AM PDT replyactions
.
Upshaw’s final list is
UofL, Georgetown, Kansas St, and Fresno St. So not really west coast heavy. Plus I’d like to have a player we can refer to as Bob Upshaw. Sounds like an accountant. Boom already got a nickname for him!
I bleed red and black. I poop blue.
by neecebravo on Oct 13, 2011 9:51 AM PDT upreplyactions
.
I thought I saw another Cali or Nevada school in there
But I still feel like White is the best option because we will have Gorgui for 4 years I think and he is really not an upgrade over Prive IMO, seems clumsy a little
However, we lose 2 guards/wings in Kuric and Smith plus Wayne might be gone after 2 seasons and I definitely think White is an upgrade over Nunez
by I WantReeceBack! on Oct 13, 2011 10:15 AM PDT upreplyactions
.
I too would prefer White over Upshaw.
Upshaw does look a bit uncoordinated, and I don’t see him being better than Gorgui or much better than Price. But alas, both are top-50 guys and I would be pleased to have either; and by the way, I think Nunez has a great future here
Melvin M. Tuggle III - October 29, 2011
Predicition, we get Upshaw!!!
-Willie Cauley wants to stay at home in Kansas and is rated higher then Upshaw according to ESPN, Kansas State also has no commitments for 2012 to entice a strong recruit class
-Louisville only has one scholarship lift and apparently really dont want Upshaw or at least not the fan base
-Fresno State is home for Upshaw but they currently have no commitments like Kansas State to entice a strong 2012 recruit class
I hope I’m right!!!!!
Melvin M. Tuggle III - October 29, 2011
I really hope Upshaw makes the move
it’s a no brainer to see he can definitely work on his development at Georgetown.
Does anyone know who’s recruiting Upshaw? Is it Othella Harrington, or Brennan?
Big Spoon - October 29, 2011
Well it can’t be Othella..
He can only recruit locally I believe… On a side note did anybody see on Max Preps they have Bolden listed at 6 11 now? I know high school measurements are sketchy at best, but if that’s true we might have our first 7 footer since Roy… Keep growing young fella! Oh and eat a cheesburger or 5 your Olive Oil skinny.. smh

Hoyatexa.. Quick Question
Who do the guys on the team think is the best player on the team… Just being curious
yaboynyp - November 2, 2011
according to the ones if talked to
its jason, but hollis is the better scorer. there is tension between hollis and some of the others on the team though and maybe that factors in to it. tyler and mikael are high on hank sims, they say he’s gona surprise alot of people.
hoyatexa - November 3, 2011
christ if there are chemistry issues again
Hollis should just declare now and get it over with.
bunk moreland - November 3, 2011
outside of hollis..
i feel this team has great chemistry. greg, tyler, and mikael are all really close. i feel like lubick, bowen, and jabril are generally liked by all. otto and moses keep more of a distance off the court. henry and jc have great chemistry with the freshman on the court, off it, theyre the seasoned vets, as strange as it is to admit.
hoyatexa - November 3, 2011
let me clarify though..
i get the feeling that there is a strong respect among the freshmen and sophomores for hollis’ talent. on the other hand, his arrogance and selfishness rubs some the wrong way
another note on chemistry, specifically regarding the offense.. greg and tyler both expressed frustration about JTIIIs offense, especially after tedious practices the week after midnight madness. still, after bitching for a bit, they defend the offense, and then tyler says something to the tune of “freeman and wright were the problem, NBA talent can thrive in this system”

Melvin M. Tuggle III - November 4, 2011

yaboynyp - November 3, 2011
among the freshman
otto is the most talented and the hardest worker. kid rarely goes out, pretty straight arrow. after him probably comes mikael. i hear that greg, despite being under the radar, has the most upside and is the best defender, both because of his athletic tools.
honestly though, theyre good one through five. i’m really excited to see jabril and tyler out there, theyve got a swag this team needs.

Andrew White just informed Scout.com that he picked up an offer from Georgetown last night.
Interesting because at one point we were his dream school. Then again, we were kyles dream school at one point too
jsk793 - November 3, 2011
Also interseting that DSR, White and Upshaw
were all scheduled to go to Louisville MM. DSR cancelled because he was committing to Gtown, White cancelled because of lacks of schollies and went NC State’s I think instead. Upshaw was the only one who went. I think White wants to stay close to home – but we are on him awful late. And coming on the heels Warren it just looks like he is second choice. Interesting we are not pushing harder on the bigs with so many 2/3’s in fold, even with Hollis leaving early.

Why Andrew White?
We have Jabril, DSR, Aaron, and Greg that can play the 2.

Melvin M. Tuggle III - November 4, 2011
Visit?
Does Andrew White have a visit date set up?
Melvin M. Tuggle III - November 7, 2011
per rivals
White’s most recent offer came from Georgetown, The Hoyas were a finalist for five-star small forward T.J. Warren, but when he opted for North Carolina State, Georgetown turned its attention to White.
“Coach John Thompson and his staff from Georgetown came to my game on Friday,” said White. "I talked to Coach Thompson later that night on the phone and he offered me a scholarship. We couldn’t talk to each other in person at the game, but we had a nice talk on the phone afterwards.
“Georgetown, you know, they’re kind of late getting involved in my recruitment,” he added. "I’ve got a lot of great schools on my list that have been recruiting me for a long time, so that’s something I’ve got to consider. Georgetown wants me to come for a visit, which would be my last visit, but I don’t know if that’s going to happen.
not very optomistic. If we don’t get upshaw, I would say it is time to move on to the 13 class

9:58: Have been doing some digging on Robert Upshaw and his decision. One coach involved in his recruitment said, “Not signing today.” Louisville, Fresno State, Georgetown and Kansas State are involved. Louisville and Georgetown may be the leaders here. (ED)
jsk793 - November 9, 2011
Louisville recruiting!!!
If my source is correct, Louisville is out of schalrships as of today when they picked up PG Terry Rozier,(unless they pull a UConn). I hope I’m right, this would put us in the lead for White and Upshaw!!
Melvin M. Tuggle III - November 9, 2011

K State just signed Laimonas Chatkevicius from Lithuania. He is currently going to school in kansas, in one report he’s 6-10 230lbs and in another he’s a 7 footer. The options are getting slim in Upshaw’s top four. I hope this is good for the home team!!!

NERLENS-HELL YEAH !
Jarnell Stokes and Shaq Goodwin couldn’t even get shots off vs. Nerlens this summer. let’s wait a year and bring in Nerlens and Troy Williams. Then we got a shot at the Final 4 in 2014 !
pcbiz - November 11, 2011
Maybe just maybe!!!!
Maybe Sims game today will lure Upshaw to the hilltop, seeing how the offense can run through the center postion. Maybe this was what he was wanting to see prior to signing.
Melvin M. Tuggle III - November 12, 2011

Maybe we have a shot
bunk moreland - November 13, 2011
But the Hoyas need a big
grabbing another SG/SF would pretty much waste away a scholarship, unless we as fans can start speculating that (insert any name) will be pretty much transferring to another school next year.
Big Spoon - November 13, 2011
Upshaw
He is deciding tomorrow. Idk what to think about louisville. They have no scholarships left, but pitino could always have something up his sleeve. K-State just signed a big man. So it could come down to us and fresno
jsk793 - November 13, 2011
i wouldnt be surprised by a k state signing
Hire Esherick - November 13, 2011
k-state
I wouldn’t be either. He and his family have really played this recruitment close to the vest. There is really no leader here. I guess well find out tomorrow
jsk793 - November 13, 2011
I guess we could count K State scholarships.
I would have to guess that one or two scholarships remain. Secondly, K State picked up Adrian Diaz last year, he’s another 6-11 220lbs center.
Melvin M. Tuggle III - November 13, 2011
we do have bigs too
adams, moses, hopkins and bolden are either the class in front of upshaw or his class. So from a recruitng perspective you can be sure Louisville/K State will be pointing that out. Now I think Upshaw is only true 5 outside of moses, and probably has a better upside so I do want him slightly more than white.
bunk moreland - November 13, 2011
This is from K State
Not that I’ve seen.
But I heard one of our problems right now is scholarships, as in, we don’t have many. I’d have to look at a roster, but we’re young. The other thing that’s out there is if you’re coming to KState, you better produce and quickly or you’ll be transferring. So when a kid looks at KSU and they aren’t a five star one and done they take that into consideration. And Frankly, if they are a one and done they would much rather go somewhere they can get their balls suckeled than go somewhere they’re going to have to work their ass off. It’s not like we have a rep of making any one position infinitely better. So it’s not like the best bigs or points or shooters are climbing over each other to be here.
God that sounded depressing. All that to say, when we do get a kid we know that he’s willing to put the time in to be a better player, and person. I’m ok with that. As long as we keep putting up respectable seasons.
When life hands you lemons, make grape juice. Let them wonder how the F*ck you did it.

Yeah, i think we only have 1 scholly to give.
We are after…
Robert Upshaw Would definitely be happy with him. Cauley beat him head to head this year per Bossi, fwiw.
Demetrius Henry Pretty decent offer list.
Laimonas Chatkevicius Call him Moose because it’s easier. He is ours if we want him according to the last GPC update. He may reclassify to 2013 as well.

We made the final cut of 9 possibles. Probably more like 7 with NC State having; (Purvis, Warren, and Lewis), also Louisville is out of schalorships. http://www.nbc12.com/story/16115440/spiders-among-final-cut-for-top-recruit-white
Melvin M. Tuggle III - November 24, 2011
Is Pollard still in the mix
for the Hoyas services?
Big Spoon - November 24, 2011
Doubtful
He will decide in the next week or two and we havent even gotten a visit
jsk793 - November 24, 2011
Where did you see he is set to decide??
From what I’ve heard he has always been a spring signing guy, and he is currently playing football..

Edit# my fault I thought you were talking about Pollard

Age limit is probably going to change from 19 to 20. Well there goes calapari’s recruiting philosophy.
jsk793 - November 26, 2011
Still have a shot with Andrew White
isportswebchris Chris Resor
Andrew White tells me that while there are no leaders, KU and Georgetown are right near the top. Expect a decision in the next few days
2 hours ago
We got in late (post TJ Warren) but he has liked us and we have been at his last two games at Miller School. Plus KU just took a SG in Anario Adams (he is only a two/three star – not sure why they did). If he is looking to stay closer to home we might be the choice.
bunk moreland - November 29, 2011
Interesting!!!!
If we get White, does DSR play point and has White had a campus or home visit yet?
Melvin M. Tuggle III - November 29, 2011
If White comes on board, this would be pretty good (only if Pollard doesn't come on board)
I’m sure Bolden is giving him the scoop as well.

Seems like a stretch right now… maybe a fallback option?

I think so
lower half of the top 100 (four star by both rivals and scout), A local guard with decent size and can shoot. Why not?
bunk moreland - November 30, 2011
I dunno maybe I need to see more but...
I don’t think we need another 6’3 shooting guard…Maybe we’re in on this kid early before he blows up, but Penn State and Vcu being our main comp make me believe his recruitment has not taken off yet…

I know he did not get much run against Oak Hill, but has he shown any signs that he gotten a bit better?
bunk moreland - November 30, 2011
I have no idea, I can’t find stats for this guy anywhere, but he is being listed everywhere as being 6’11..
So if true, I guess that is a good thing.. At least we know he is playing against good comp everyday at practice QEA is stacked as usual.

QEA
They are playing in tourneys in Md during december and January.. Go check this bolden kid. Scary how you hear so little about him.
pcbiz - November 30, 2011
How's Hot?????
Is their anybody that we are holding out for or is this year a wrap for us in the recruiting battle. I feel like the remaining recruits are simply lost in the muck as far as finding their choice spots. I would like to see another top recruit come our way, but we don’t need problem kids!!! I guess what I’m trying to say is, these remaining kids need to make a choose and if we can grab an asset lets do it.
Melvin M. Tuggle III - December 1, 2011
12 recruits
we are really only in on two more, andrew white and devonta pollard. White is suppose to decide by the end of this week, and we have a shot at him. Pollard isn’t deciding till the spring and we are kind of a long shot. I say kind of because htere is barely ever news on him for any school, so it is kind of wide open.
jsk793 - December 1, 2011
I am hoping there is a decommit worth looking at as well in the springish
Ricardo Gathers or the like.
bunk moreland - December 1, 2011
A Kyle Anderson decommitment would be hilarious!!!!!
Not that I want him now after his circus recruitment battle with Rutgers, but it would be worth a laugh!!!!
Melvin M. Tuggle III - December 1, 2011
Sorry was that Rutgers, St Johns, or Seton Hall that we had words with over KA?
Melvin M. Tuggle III - December 1, 2011
seton hall
the SHU blogger still contends that Georgetown was last on KA’s list, as if that matters at all.
Hire Esherick - December 1, 2011
Andrew White
He is deciding at 5 pm tomorrow before his game. According to jerry meyer of rivals, he is a kansas lean
jsk793 - December 1, 2011
was hoping he would hold off
but if he is announcing tomorrow then it is almost certainly KU.
bunk moreland - December 2, 2011
So therefore our chances are
even stronger with Pollard? If this is true, this is good indeed!
Big Spoon - December 2, 2011
Maybe in that we can make it clear to Pollard he is our priority
but I really am not holding out hope for him either.
I think I am ok with just Bolden and DSR, but adding a Pollard or transfer/decommitt would make me feel a lot better. Seeing the advantage of depth this year.
bunk moreland - December 2, 2011
Then again what's really
important is that the Hoyas still need another big on the blocks! I cannot envision any bigs decommitting anytime soon!
Big Spoon - December 3, 2011
Devonta
jsk793 - December 2, 2011
Devonta Pollard
He was at the game tonight. What a game for him to see. Idk what this does for his recruitment, but it certainly can’t hurt it. He had to be impressed with what he saw

Does anyone have any information on him? I see that the Hoyas offered him a scholarship.

Big Spoon - December 6, 2011
Yeah been talking about him for a while
6’5 pg at Findlay Prep (Btw JYD works at Findlay ) Good shooter and playmaker, plays extremely hard and is putting up pretty big numbers on a stacked FP team. Many people saying he could be a 5 star prospect when the ranking are updated…Arizona and Gonzaga are gonna be hard to beat out on this one, but he’s more than worth the effort.

His look is pretty sweet
flowing locks and all that. But I agree could be a solid pick-up if AZ stays away. Him and DSR and Trawick would be nice size in the backcourt. Less need to try to pick Jordan in 2013 as well.

hoyafan03 - December 6, 2011
Gathers listed as 6'7 PF
does the Hoyas need a undersized player at the 4? Another Clarence Weatherspoon (for the older fans in us).
Not to say the kid will not grow, but I think the Hoyas should stay with the plan of length in it’s future.
Big Spoon - December 6, 2011
Gathers is a rebounding machine
He would be a fanastic get for this team
jsk793 - December 6, 2011
Understood
however, I believe it’s better to have the added length, perhaps he (Gathers) could be another Dejuan Blair, who knows. Height cannot be taught, and hopefully the Hoyas could look elsewhere with a needed big down the road.

hoyafan03 - December 11, 2011
DSR was not too bad!!!!!!!!
A solid 20pts and he was great from the free throw line.
Melvin M. Tuggle III - December 15, 2011
Not bad got 20 on 11 shots I think..
Although he didn’t shoot it that well from the field 4-11..
Can score, didn’t look too athletic, looks like he could lose some weight to, but has a controlled game and understands where to get his shots. Very much looks like he thinks the game and he should be good in our offense because of it. Defensively he looked disinterested, got his hands on some balls for steals, but overall was not impressed with his game on that side of the ball..
His basketball IQ has to be one of his stronger attributes which is good
yaboynyp - December 16, 2011
^ Agreed!!!
Melvin M. Tuggle III - December 16, 2011
Tony Parker OMG!!!!!!
Really looked nice, wish we were one of his top schools!!!
Melvin M. Tuggle III - December 15, 2011
He destroyed Oak Hill..lol
Hammonds didn’t look too bad..errr in the 10 minutes he played
yaboynyp - December 16, 2011
Agreed. I re-watched on DVR last night -
while wrapping presents, errr, fighting communists.
1. Please god can we get reinvolved with Tony Parker. Lost weight, stronger with great touch. Only reason Miller Grove kept is close. Embrassed Hammonds I thought.
2. I may watch NC State games just for Ty Lewis who could not look less like a Division 1 player (5’ 11" 165 lbs). Best passer I have seen – and I am west coast guy – since maybe Luke Ridnour. He Purvis and Warren are going to have some obscene lobs at NC St.
3. DSR is a scorer. Leading scorer on the best high school team in the country, whats not to like. Plays like a blend between CW and Free, with some of the plusses and minuses of both. Got to line well, did not finish great, nice stroke, indifferent D – kind of was looking to make steals and did get his hands on a lot of balls. Very happy if he is third guard with Starks and Jabrail. Best case comparison – Khalid Reeves/Jarrett Jack.
4. RJ Curington – 6’4" Junior on Oak Hill plays behind DSR. We are recruiting him and he hit a couple of big 3s. Could certainly hand athleteically. Tough between him and Hart, but I think I prefer Hart.

Basically threw Gtown right up there with Kentucky and Duke
"Now, I’m thinking outside the box," Gathers said. "Now I’m looking ahead. I’m trying to go big now with [programs like Duke, Georgetown, Kentucky]."
He may not be listed at 6-9 or anything, but this guy is a true 4. The quest for the post-Sims center goes on, but you need rocks like Gathers to build top teams around.

That article was crazy!
He wants to go big with programs like Duke, Georgetown, Kentucky, but we’re not mentioned as being in the mix???
yaboynyp - December 21, 2011
he’s been listed with various measurements
Zags 6’8"
Scout 6’7"
Rivals 6’8"
my opinion is that the Hoyas should go after someone other than the listed 6’8"-6’9" bigs.
Big Spoon - December 19, 2011
Don’t sleep on this kid Spoon..

Big Spoon - December 25, 2011
he's from Alabama
Big Spoon - December 25, 2011
K T Harrell
I don’t think we nor he would benefit by him coming to the Hilltop. He would more then likely play behind someone else and that seems to be the reason for him transferring. I would like to see Bowen come of the bench behind Clark, I think his size it would create a miss match and he’s got that 3 point shot.
Melvin M. Tuggle III - December 25, 2011
But I'm with you on the big's, we need a 7' footer!!!!!
Melvin M. Tuggle III - December 25, 2011
Oh no doubt
for that I’ll try my best not to speculate any transfer possibilities, and as you stated let Bowen obtain more action on the court!

17 comments Email Print.According to a tweet from Jeff Goodman, star class of 2013 big man Nerlens Noel will be visiting Louisville for the Georgetown game on Wednesday.
Noel, a 6-10 center from Tilton School (NH), is the class of 2013’s No. 3 overall player according to Rivals.com. He’s being recruited heavily by just about every big name program in the country, including Kentucky.
And if you weren’t excited before…

Speaking of Philly guys..Rondae Jefferson mentioning us again 2 according to Recruit Scoop
yaboynyp - December 30, 2011
A lil bit about Rondae for those that don’t know..
6’7 Consensus top 30 recruit, 19 Rivals, 27 Scout, 33 Espn. He’s very much a point forward can really handle and create for others. Above average athlete, great rebounder, but struggles with his shot. His shooting is his one glaring weakness, if he tightens that up than he would be in the 10-15 range easily.
Best thing about the kid when asked by reporters what he can bring to the table the first thing out of his mouth is defense. That being said his offensive game is really good, and even though he struggles with his shot he has no problems putting up numbers for a loaded Chester team.
In our offense due to his strong ball handling and playmaking ability he could either play PG (Reaching a little but hoping.. yes please) or Point Forward I imagine. He’s 2013 so he still has time to develop.
yaboynyp - December 31, 2011

Cant figure out how to quote on my phone, but basically that people questioned his descion on georgetown.
What is the main thing being used against us in recruiting? System? Why wouldnt a tough guard want to come to gtown?
As an aside what i really like about this team is that its almost the basketball verison of the total football approach used by the dutch soccer teams in the esrly 70s. Those clockwork orange teams did not have set positions but could slip interchangably from attack to defending. I feel like our team almost has that with everyone expected to be able to pass, shoot back cut rebound and defend from almost any point on floor with less emphasis on traditional positions – eg guards in the backcourt and forwards in the front court. It plays out in that just about anyone could lead the team on an given night- really like the balance and versitility.
bunk moreland - January 1, 2012
Same things as usual.
He likes to run, and we play a "slow princeton offense" same ol story
yaboynyp - January 2, 2012
^this^
b/c the Hoyas employ a anti-ddr (dribble drive) offense, and focuses more on a team concept and less about the politics of individual play (see AAU bball).

That's a good question, what is the main reason recruits stay clear??

Kids stay away because...
1. Academics-you can’t take Basket Weaving or the Theory of Dodgeball at G-town. Inner city kids are not prepared to do this after the coddling and hand holding they’ve unfortunately (for them) been getting for all these years. They’ve been drinking the cool-aid so long about how great they are, that they don’t want to do classwork for too long, maybe until the 2nd semester ends of their frosh year. Look at Calipari’s record for kids: after 1 or 2 years in the NBA they go back to the hood and chill. They aren’t world shakers or rain makers, or even societal contributors. They don’t get degrees ! They don’t go anywhere.
2. AAU Ball-The top kids are often uncoachable and undisciplined. AAU has prevented kids from learning the basics of basketball. AAU ball highlights your athleticism, but teaches you nothing about team ball. Little greedy point guards run up and down and hog the ball. They only throw hot dogg passes. Big men block shots and dunk, but never box out, never learn post moves, never learn post defense, never learn to pass, and all you ever hear today is “that there are no big men anymore”.
3. Dick Vitale-He hypes all of his cash making buddies like Cal, Pitino and coach K$, but has always despised G-town since the days of Coach Thompson II and Patrick Ewing. I hate to even listen to him on the TV. He’s a hypocrite and a has-been. He sucked as a coach and now is in the HOF. What ?
4. JT3 is too real-The top kids wanna be one 1 and done. Give me more G Monroe’s. Remember how he went from being #1 in the country to #20 ? Why ? Because he chose G-town and the people at ESPN and the other rating idiots just wanna use these kids and hype them so it helps their NBA ratings. The kids are a product for them. A commodity like the COMEX. JT3 tells them what they need to work on. He talks about their weaknesses but promises to help them get there. Other kids take the b.s. from coaches and sit the bench and end up nowhere .

twitter is the best for recruit junkies. Hart was also at game again in gtown gear. At this point, there is a lot of smoke with him. My guess is he is the next hoya.

awesome interview with DSR
http://recruitingspotlight.wordpress.com/2012/01/05/smith-rivera-says-parker-next-gu-commit-interview/
Hire Esherick - January 5, 2012
DSR is solid
My only lingering doubt that should get resolved by Kenner next year is whether he has the quicks and strength to still bully his way to the paint and draw fouls against BE guards. Brill has a hard time doing that now and I think he is a significantly better athelete.
Would love to get reinvolved with Parker and appreciate the push from DSR – but I think that is a very long shot. Now if Parker actually comes for a visit – then we have a shot.
bunk moreland - January 6, 2012
More concerned with him on the defensive end than on O
He’s wired to score and is a great shooter, he’ll get open shots in this offense everybody does
yaboynyp - January 6, 2012
As he stated in the article
him and Trawick are really cool, so therefore what better way to be close with a team-mate who loves to be agressive on D?
Big Spoon - January 6, 2012
Does anyone
have ‘any’ updated material about Bolden?
Big Spoon - January 6, 2012
Might have already been posted
Brandon Bolden, Center, Quality Education
Bolden is committed to Georgetown, and Hoyas head coach John Thompson was in attendance to watch his prized 6’11″ recruit. Bolden had a somewhat unimpressive game in terms of scoring (three points), but showed some flashes of brilliance. He is very athletic and moves well on the floor for a big man. He is a big-time shot blocking threat, but is fairly skinny, and will have to bulk up to do well in the Big East.

Not really something light...
Brandon Bolden 6’11″ 200 C 2012 Quality Education Academy (NC)
The Georgetown signee, is originally from Sumter, SC and is considered one of the top twenty centers in the country by many publications. The long (7’3 wing-span) and slender (could use some bulking up) Bolden held offers from The University of Georgia, UVa, Baylor University, University of Florida and Virginia Tech.

I got a question no one has asked?????
How’s are big’s coming along, are they recovering as to be expected? I see Tyler jumping up and down off the bench, and he tweeted that he couldn’t wait to start practicing again.
Melvin M. Tuggle III - January 6, 2012
I bet he ends up redshirting..
It really just makes too much sense… With Moses getting a M.R this year that would put 7 of our 13 scholly’s in that class (Jabril, Otto, Moses, Whitt, Hopkins, Adams, and Bowen)
If Adams gets a M.R he would be a part of the DSR Bolden class and drops the Sophomores down to 6.
Not saying it happens but might be good for the program and him considering he wasn’t going to play a ton of minutes this year..
yaboynyp - January 6, 2012
Didn't Moses have one already from last year's injury (M.R.)?
Or rather it was just a regular Redshirt year?

Anya
are we still involved? Watched a bit of Dematha and he looked much improved. Lighter and taller. I think I would like him over Meeks.
bunk moreland - January 12, 2012
^I second that
A home town boy, Dematha connection, his conditioning should not be in question, and I heard he’s got a good motor.
Melvin M. Tuggle III - January 12, 2012
I have seen him play twice
both times at the Cancer Research Classic in Wheeling WV. The improvement between last year and this year is very impressive. Last year, conditioning seemed like a major issue; this year, he dominated the paint against a good, if undersized, team. Looks like more of a pounder/grinder as opposed to a skilled passer.
ReggieandtheMiracles - January 13, 2012
So he's more of a Julian Vaughn then
now didn’t this hamper JT3 schemes last year?
Big Spoon - January 14, 2012
Anya is the same size as Gathers
but with a longer wing span? I mean if JT3 is willing to take a shot at him, go for it, and continue the DeMatha pipeline. This will give the Hoyas a even stronger presence in the DMV!

yaboynyp - January 17, 2012
I went to the MLK Hoopfest Showcase to watch Troy and Josh Hart play. Troy had a horrible game in which he had more turnovers than points. Clearly, the guy has a big upside, but he could not make anything happen and did not look like a top ten player.
Hart had a very solid performance. His outside shooting was off, but he goes hard to the basket and had a couple of strong dunks in traffic.
Kyle Watson - January 17, 2012
I guess the aspect of 'family' doesn't play a factor after all...smh!
Oh well!
Big Spoon - January 17, 2012
A little down about 2012/13
We dont seem to be close on any bigs except maybe meeks. bolden is routinely getting DNPs for his high schhol team. Did not get warren, anderson, upshaw or white. Faded in running for noel, tony parker, gathers, troy is becoming a long shot.
hart is probably most likely recruit but mirrors what DSR does. And neither is super atheletic. Really dont want to lose the mo from this years class when we can see how effectve rangy wings can be.
That said its not all bad, land hart, pollard or domingo and meeks and at least it wont be wattad and benimon and vee off the bench.
bunk moreland - January 17, 2012
If they landed those 4 our team would be insanely good..
Hart is probably more comparable to Jabril than DSR.. Rivera’s more like a Austin Freeman type but remember Austin was a top 15 guy… Domingo is like another Hollis..
That being said not sure we will land any but I’m sure we will get some good players.. The staff is all over the place recruiting
yaboynyp - January 18, 2012

Arizona’s class is ridiculous… How in the hell is Jordan Adams rated so high? He can shoot but he’s a fatty mac. Dude is the Josh Smith of small forwards..Oak Hill/Ucla effect I guess….shrugs
yaboynyp - January 25, 2012
Wondering how
UVA has signed more players (2012) than G’Town…fwiw!
In this case Tony Bennett runs the ‘same offense’ just like JT3 (but with a twist of lime). Should we as fans be worried, due to the lack of signatures? Not stating that the staff isn’t tryin’ hard to bring in quality players, however where is it that the staff is coming up short.
Perhaps I’m just being delusional or rather paranoid….To be continued!
Big Spoon - January 25, 2012
Justin Anderson
sort of fell in their lap when Gary Williams retired but Bennet has done a great job. So has Houston – House really raised his stock. Don’t understand how James Robinson passed DSR .
I think we have a decent chance with Pollard but agree on 2012 guys. But again I am not sure we need it. With Bowen and likely moses redshirting – we will have a 6 person sophmore class – and freshman class of DSR, Adams and Bolden, with two juniors (Starks and Lubbick). 11 kids is light – so no injuries. Maybe take a transfer.
bunk moreland - January 25, 2012
This
Between Moses injury, suspension, and limited playing time as a frosh it’s almost like you have a 4 person class with Dsr, Addams, Bolden, and Moses as is…
yaboynyp - January 25, 2012
I agree perhaps
I’m not lookin’ at the ‘bigger picture’ in regards to recruiting/injuries etc….
Big Spoon - January 25, 2012
This is where I'm tryin' not to go back to speculating in that regards (transfers), the Hoyas have lost quiet a few bodies in that department.
Big Spoon - January 25, 2012
On a side note has anyone noticed the insane amount of transfers UCLA has had recently??
Matt Carlino (BYU), Jamison Morgan, Mike Moser (UNLV), Drew Gorden (New Mexico), Chace Stanback (UNLV), De’end Parker (TBA), Reeves Nelson (dismissed TBA) etc..
Between that and guys jumping to the pro’s way before they are ready (Richard Mbah a Moute, Malcolm Lee etc..) it seems players can’t wait to get away from Howland soon enough..
Wonder if he survives the year. Ucla isn’t used to missing the tourney 2 out of 3 years and .500 winning percentages.
yaboynyp - January 25, 2012
Add Tyler Honeycutt to that list of unready NBA draftees..
yaboynyp - January 25, 2012
Howland has a mess
I don’t think a chucker like Adams and Kyle Anderson are going to solve a lot either. Wear twins are not fast. Kyle aint fast. Smith is smith. I think they are middling again next year. He is on thin ice.
But also reinforces transfers happen anywhere. Herb Sendek at ASU quoted a statistic that 40% of bball players who sign an LOI with a D-1 school are not at that school by the end of their sophomore year.
bunk moreland - January 25, 2012
Wow
those are alot of heads who’ve left that program.
In regards to their recruiting they already have Kyle Anderson, and now their really workin’ on Shabazz Muhammad, and then they’ll leave the program after 1 yr.
Furthermore the Pac-12 is so weak that Cal is likely the only team to make the big dance.

Maybe he can be on the soccer team too.. shrugs
yaboynyp - February 2, 2012
that was purely
athletic all the way on that move…
Big Spoon - February 2, 2012
Yeah he’s got some ball skills too, and good form on the jumper as well..
Looks pretty solid. Add to the fact that he is 23 now and played in the worlds for the DR with pros like Hartford, Villanueva, and Garcia and you have a pretty seasoned recruit that’s probably ready to contribute right away..
yaboynyp - February 2, 2012
No Way
Gathers, Parker, and Upshaw would have all gotten immediate playing time. They are bigs, and georgetown desperately needs bigs. Parker would be an amazing get, but it is highly doubtful

Nerlens Noel reclassifies to 2012
http://www.therecruitscoop.com/nerlens-noel-reclassified-back-to-2012
I think the re-classification only helps us. There is a wide open starting job in the middle next year.
Hire Esherick - February 1, 2012
Yeah.. Pray it’s us...
“I think I’m going to visit Kentucky, Florida, Georgetown and North Carolina,” Noel said. “Some of the coaches gave me dates but I have a couple of big games on those days so they’re not really planned yet.”
yaboynyp - February 1, 2012
That's tough competition for us
But there’s always hope. He will immediately become my favorite Hoya of this recruiting cycle if he keeps the flat-top.
WarmupEwing - February 2, 2012
Long Shot
As much as I would LOVE to get Noel, I think it is a long shot. Yes, he would be a perfect fit, and could propel the hoyas into national championship contention, we have a small chance. As it stands now Cuse probably leads for him. The best thing G-town could do is to get a visit from him. If we can get a visit we have a shot.
A few things to keep in mind when looking at competitors for Noel:
Cuse: They already have Dajuan coleman, but still they will as hard as possible on noel.
Uconn: If Drummond were to stay, then I think that would all but eliminate them.
Kentucky: They have Willie cauly, but Coach Cal will go all out to get Noel. But keep in mind, Cal will still be working hard to get shabazz.
We have a small shot
jsk793 - February 1, 2012
never understood the appeal of a 2-3 zone for a big man
sure it pads your block stats but doesnt help with development. too bad nba is all about draft day payday and not second contract
Hire Esherick - February 1, 2012
He also grew up a Hoya fan FWIW
yaboynyp - February 2, 2012
Cuse is actually hard to believe
I really don’t see him picking cuse. they already have melo, and coleman is on the way
jsk793 - February 2, 2012
money talks
Hire Esherick - February 2, 2012
Melo probably gone.. Especially if he’s already having troubles academically
Not buying the whole class cheated rumor.. A kid from his class would have already confirmed that IMO… However they still have Xmas and Coleman Fwiw…
If you’re the number 1 recruit in the nation though doubtful your concerned about whose on the roster at your position.. We’ll see
yaboynyp - February 2, 2012
Not to mention christmas
bunk moreland - February 2, 2012
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Kyle anderson grow up rooting for the hoyas

He said UNC and Gtown were the first basketballs he had received from his pops..
But yeah that’s why I said "FWIW"
yaboynyp - February 2, 2012
Well regardless, I think Kentucky will be stiffest competition
jsk793 - February 2, 2012
Did Troy visit yesterday for the game?
Not that we have a great shot.

Stolen from the other board...
1st Noel:
“Georgetown, who Noel is also planning to take an official visit too, had John Thompson at one of his games last week.
"Their interest is high too," Noel told Scout.com. "Coach Thompson was up here last week for one of my games. Georgetown is a real good school basketball wise and academically.
"They just have a great history with their big men and the Princeton offense and where their big men are always involved," he added."
http://scouthoops.scout.com/2/1155223.html
And 2nd Tony Parker:
“My coaches said Big John (former Georgetown coach John Thompson Sr.) was at my game last Saturday versus Dunwoody. Having him at one of my games is an absolute honor because he is a great coach and man. He has done a lot for basketball, and my family really appreciated him coming because they grew up watching Georgetown in their neighborhood. If you were a good basketball player, Georgetown was the place to be.”

great things to hear
now need to close.
Hire Esherick - February 2, 2012
Nice song and dance but are they going to visit??
They both need to make a commitment to visit. I don’t think these guys would want to play behind Moses and Adams and I’m sure neither Moses or Adams wants to lose a spot but what does one do.
Melvin M. Tuggle III - February 2, 2012
Noel will visit.. TP maybe not..
Ohio State definitely feels like they have Parker in their back pocket.. The bigger thing is Big John going to see some of these kids play that aren’t in the DMV area.. Where as a lot of these kids may not be familiar with those old Hoya teams, their parents definitely know and he is an Icon in the African American community.
Certainly can’t hurt things but still Parker is a long shot.
As for playing time, Noel plays 30+ minutes from the jump no matter whose on the roster. Parker probably 25. Noel’s AAU team plays a similar offense to ours from what I understand. He gets a lot of touches inside and out, and they run the offense through him similar to Georgetown.
We just need to keep winning games on the court and that plus hardwork, will win us some of these recruiting battles.
yaboynyp - February 2, 2012
Big Spoon - February 3, 2012
oops
What I meant was this is very hard to believe b/c this day in age, just about every AAU team play isolation basketball.

Jordan Brand All Stars announced
“DSR”!http://espn.go.com/high-school/boys-basketball/story/_/id/7529171/2012-jordan-brand-classic-rosters?eleven=twelve make it. Jermai Grant did – don’t get that choice over guys like Pollard. Tony Parker is the only guy are still involved that is undecided. I think Porter made this game last year.

DSR did not make it. So former targets House and Kyler Anderson did.

2013 Pg, 6 1’ 2 star from milton said we recruiting him. Keep lots of lures in the water.
Same article also a short write up of the nation prep school invitational. Devon hayes who was mentioned earlier plays for mont clare who is playing at the tourney but he was not mentioned.
bunk moreland - February 3, 2012
Davon Hayes
Had 18 and player of the game for Mont Clare for their last game at the NPSI
He fits the mold of the type of kid we have been going after recently – 6’7" athlete. A Warren/Pollard light.
bunk moreland - February 6, 2012
DSR has been on fire lately:
Thursday he had 24 vs Jordan Goodmans Arlington Day team. He was 6-10 from 3 that game
Friday he had 29 and 5 assists
Saturday he had 35 of OHA’s 71
yaboynyp - February 5, 2012

Class of '12
G-town is this-close with borth Pollard & Noel. Especially with Uconn out the tourney in 2013.
Saw Noel last sumer. Like someone mentioned above: THEY PLAY THE G-TOWN OFFENSE ON HIS AAU TEAM (Ask Lube). He dominated Jarnell Stokes and Shaq goodwin when I saw him.
BTW the UConn women actually run G-town sets in the 1/2 court too.
pcbiz - February 13, 2012
re uconn
are we expecting any de-commitments after their post season ban? i heared durring the broadcast that harkless was a uconn commit, but open his recruiting after allegations started to surface.
hoyafan03 - February 13, 2012
I think they only have Omar Calhoun committed
G from Brooklyn. And he might not jump ship. More likely everyone who thinks they are NBA material will declare – Drummond, Lamb, Napier – maybe even boatwright. Orakhi would be eligble to transfer and play immediately as well.
It helps in that it weakens a strong competitor and hopefully ushers Calhoun out the door. But at least they got a practice facility.
bunk moreland - February 13, 2012
I don't think the Hoyas have enough scholarships to offer both, a big (w/height) is more preferred.
Big Spoon - February 14, 2012

Big Spoon - February 15, 2012
U Cons
Drummond and Lamb will declare. Yes they have Omar C from CTK, but can’t believe that any big-timer in the clas of ‘12 will chose them knowing that they can’t play in the tourney next year. And won’t be surpised if some guys transferred (Roscoe and Deandre D in particular).
Noel is a bright, intelligent guy, just like Devonta P. They are winners and if the Hoyas land one or both, they will be a fave for the 2013 final 4.

bunk moreland - February 15, 2012
From 15 to 11 huh?
lol Looks like we’re the only east coast team on there. I think those first four teams will be in it until the end but hopefully we can pull it off. Would be nice to add a 6’5 point to the mix.
yaboynyp - February 15, 2012
Also the closest one to Italy
with a broader international student base than most of the schools listed. Whom I am kidding. I want Pollard.
bunk moreland - February 15, 2012
Nerlens
is who we need to replace Sims on the block.
Big Spoon - February 15, 2012
absolutely
just the distance from Nerlens to the hilltop seems much farther/further than for Pollard.
Nerlens cant make the Nova game, has not scheduled a vist yet, Providence and Cuse and every other major school has been putting in work. If Noel schedules a visit – then maybe I will get my hopes up.
bunk moreland - February 15, 2012

Kaza Kajami-Keane
2012 – 6’2" PG * on rivals from Canada/North Carolina listing us as recruiting him but he sounds wide open
The fact we are still involved with 2012 PGs (e.g. Amedeo) means staff are not sold on DSR as the PG of the future.

yaboynyp - February 16, 2012
I have been receiving some very good reports about Kaza Keane, who could be the top Canadian point guard in the 2013 class.
The Toronto native who attends the Christian Faith Center Academy in Creedmoor, N.C., is 6-foot-2 and 180 pounds. He has excellent court vision, 3-point range and plays with good energy and urgency on both ends of the floor. Keane is also a good defender who puts good pressure on the ballhandler and is alert in passing lanes. He has good but not elite speed and quickness, but seems to have a great feel for the game.
“What I do best is make plays; I do whatever my team needs. I have good court vision and can score, when needed. I need to add strength and be more vocal,” Keane said.
