Now that's the Georgetown team we are accustomed to seeing. Georgetown beat St. John's yesterday 69-49 at the World's Most Famous Arena. Hollis Thompson paced the Hoyas with 20 second half points. Jason Clark had a stellar game as well, with 15 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists. Two of the vaunted freshmen were sensational. Otto Porter had a double-double, with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Greg Whittington chipped in with 8 points and 8 rebounds as well.
For Georgetown, yesterday's game was a game of runs. They found themselves down 13-5 to start the game, then promptly ripped off an 18-2 run. In the second half, the Johnnies cut it to 48-45 with 6:30 left in the game. From there Georgetown closed with a 21-4 run to seal the victory.

Yesterday was the first time I saw the Hoyas in person. I came away very impressed by the length of the freshmen. Porter, Whittington, Jabril Trawick, and Mikael Hopkins are monsters. They all are physically imposing, and the thought of them with a year of lifting under their belts makes the next few years very exciting. That said, this year's team is EXCELLENT as long as it takes care of the ball. The defense is smothering, we have great shooters, and we have nine guys that can legitimately contribute.
The upcoming schedule is one that Georgetown should dominate. Depaul is on Tuesday, then games against Rutgers and Pittsburgh before facing UConn and Syracuse in early February. Still, it's the Big East, so every game will be a battle. If the Hoyas can handle business in the next three games, I think they will be able to separate themselves from the logjam that is currently known as the Big East conference.
Onwards and upwards Depaul is next.

Can't discount Pitt or Rutgers
Rutgers has played really tough against some good opposition, and Pitt isn’t terrible. I’m still not too worried about DePaul, even though they just scored their first Big East win ever. But who knows in this crazy conference…

Thought I read in the DePaul paper that they were like 0W and 30-something losses the last bunch of BE seasons, but not sure. Was also thrown off by the fact that DePaul students rushed the court after beating Pitt – something I figured they’d only do if it was their first conference win ever. Apologies if I was mistaken.

Georgetown (14-3, 4-2 Big East, projected No. 3 seed): The Hoyas have lost two of their past three but still sit in a very enviable position. Wins over Memphis (twice), Alabama (away), Louisville (away) and Marquette will do that. Instead of fighting for the expected NIT berth, Georgetown is a half-game back of Cincinnati in the non-Syracuse portion of the Big East. The Hoyas figure to be favored in every game until they visit the Carrier Dome on Feb. 8, meaning we could be looking at a 19-3 team taking on a 24-0 Orange squad in one of the biggest matchups of the year.

is showing us great length in the backcourt, especially on defense. But he had a couple of really bad TOs with Western Union passes against the johnnies. Are we becoming the longest backcourt in the nation?? I just love that zone D with guards 6’5", 6;8", and 6’9". Was’t Otto impressive at the point of a 1-2-2- zone?
