I think Henry Sims is the best passing big man John Thompson III has ever had, even better than Greg Monroe. Sims is a point center and that offense is tailor made for his skills. If Draymond Green played for Georgetown, he might lead the country in assists.

He may be unusually kind

but I don’t think he is right. Sims is a very good passer but Monroe was excellent. Guess it depends on how you classify Jeff Green as well.

I agree, Monroe is great and had a double digit assist game (at Providence?)

but that pass by Henry at WV around his man to the cutter was NAICE.

And won’t here. However, I will say that Monroe arrived as a much better passer and his instincts fit JTIII’s offense ideally from the moment he stepped onto the court. Much like Otto now, Monroe had the unusual ability to see plays before they developed and predict where the opening would be.
Sims arrived as a more traditional post and has had to learn to be instinctive from the high-post. Arguably, Sims has a better complement of cutters around him than did Monroe (players 2-9), which improves Sims’ assist numbers.

I agree that Sims has better cutters

and Monroe was (perhaps?) surrounded by better shooters. I feel very confident when Henry gets the ball at the top of the key that he is going to make something good happen . . . even better than when he gets it on the block.

UConn-WVU rooting interest?

I generally hate both teams and coaches.

UConn has more BE losses so far, but seems more likely to be at the top of the standings in late February. Plus WVU owns the tiebreaker over us.

I like Connecticut better as a state (Mom’s basement is in the suburbs of New Haven, after all) but that has never made me like the Huskies before.

But only one of these teams is (at least temporarily) loyal to the Big East. Go Huskies.

I’m usually a big JTIII fan (and don’t think he’s at fault for most of our losses), but going 1-10 against a pair of opponents shows unpreparedness. Same schemes, different players, same results.

Not jumping off of a cliff, but let's keep it real here

-Our out of conference wins are ‘ok’ at best.
-Our win at Louisville is ‘ok’. Fukn Notre Dame just beat them there.
-We have a complete inability to stop anybody from driving and that has been the case for the last 5 years. We just can’t recruit good enough athletes for some reason.
-Our coach still has absolutely no idea how to run a play a) out of a timeout b) for the hottest shooter on the floor that hasn’t missed in the first half and has 1 FUKN SHOT IN THE SECOND HALF c) know that you can’t continue to play man to man against a team that drives to the hole at will and either scores or gets fouled on every possession. EVERY POSSESSION. Seriously.
-Enough with the “we’re young” bullshit. We start 2 seniors and a junior that has graduated. That is just an excuse.

Up 6 with 6 to go, and we are outscored by 10. At home. We were outplayed and outcoached. I think this one is 100% on JTIII. Pathetic job by him. The tough matchups for us are teams that are athletic, rebound, and play good d. Basically the exact opposite of us.

I hate to say it, but nothing in the last 3 years leads me to believe that this team will do anything but free fall from here. I love the Hoyas and will cheer them on every game, but come on…this shit is getting really old.

The ease with which we give the ball away all game long, especially in crunch time is something that I’ve never seen from a top 20 college basketball team in my 33 years. It’s startling.

Regarding your dismissal of the youth factor

We may start three upperclassmen, but we also have stretches of 1 senior and 4 freshmen on the floor at a time.

Nova and Pitt are a joke, Uconn just got swept by the NJ teams, etc.

I hate to say it, but nothing in the last 3 years leads me to believe that this team will do anything but free fall from here.

Unfair. 08-09 was disaster. 09-10 our best scored got diagnosed with diabetes, we still made a strong run at end of season and lost abysmal game in tourney. ’10-11 our leader broke his hand after we had won 9 out of 10.

Those arent excuses, they are realities.

This team will be fine. Porter had the worst game of his career. It is early January, lot of basketball left.

Lubick would get beat. Whittington already got eaten alive. Trawick is an option but JT3 probably believed that Porter on offenses is more valuable than Trawick on defense. For most of the reason, that has been true. Just not tonight.

With that as a general precedent (and no dfinitively better option), why would he replace him?

Everyone, including that dolt Tim Welsh, saw that their entire offense down the stretch was exploit the mismatch of Porter on the perimeter. Their guards got to the basket at will. You have to make an adjustment. Sims not rotating early enough didnt help matters either.
