Casual Hoya

Georgetown Loses, America Loses: Syracuse Defeats Hoyas 64-61 In Overtime Thriller

What a brutal way to lose such a hardfought game. Georgetown, with 10 freshmen and sophomores, went up to the Carrier Dome and outplayed Syracuse for 45 minutes. Yet, the experienced Orange prevailed where the young Hoyas couldn't. Kris Joseph hit a dagger 3 pointer with 26 seconds left in overtime to beat Georgetown 64-61. Thankfully, it is only February, because if Georgetown lost a game like this in the NCAA Tournament, I'm not sure I'd get out of bed for a week.

Georgetown had PLENTY of opportunities to win this game, but they weren't ready to do so. Henry Sims hurt us down the stretch, not converting layups and getting blocked on the Hoyas final possession in regulation. Otto Porter was the exact opposite, showing people across the country what we've seen all year - this kid is special, and will be special for a long time. Porter had 14 points and 13 rebounds, while Jason Clark had an enormous 13 points, including two ridiculous three-pointers late in the second half.

More thoughts after The Jump.

Star-divide

The referees did nothing to help Georgetown down the stretch, calling phantom fouls and absurd possession changers in a game that came down to the last moments. That said, Georgetown, with good execution, would have won this game. Unfortunately, there was no Hollis Thompson three to bail us out BECAUSE THE REFEREES WOULDN'T LET HIM IN THE GAME ON THE FINAL POSSESSION.

Regardless, there were many good things that came during this game. The Hoyas showed that they are going to compete for the rest of the season amongst the best teams in the country. For a team this young to go up to the Carrier Dome and outplay the #2 team in the country, things bode well for March. There are no such things as good losses, particularly in a rivalry this heated, but tonight was about as close as we can come to a good loss. The freshmen are officially men. Porter, Jabril Trawick, Mikael Hopkins, and Greg Whittington played monster minutes in the second half, keeping us in the game throughout.

This is a loss that will make this Georgetown team hungrier. For a young team, this kind of loss will build confidence. We went toe-to-toe with one of the three best teams in their country on their home floor and had the game ripped from us. I can honestly say that tonight Georgetown was the better team, but Syracuse executed better. Obviously, there are still some massive concerns. Why John Thompson III didn't stay in zone during overtime was baffling, particularly because it allowed Joseph to free himself throughout the extra five minutes. In addition, Sims and Hopkins have to finish better for Georgetown go deep into March. Hollis Thompson still isn't seeing enough shots either.

Alas, I am proud of our guys tonight, we are primed for a top 4 finish in the Big East and a strong March. We are a tough group that fights throughout every minute of every game, and close losses in February will prepare us for the next month and a half. The future is bright, and the present is even brighter.

St. John's is next on Sunday.

Didn’t understand why refs wouldn’t let Thompson in on final possession either?? Made it easier for Cuse to defend knowing Clark was going to most likely shoot it on that final possession.

Someone

never played basketball. Love you kid!

Consider you're from Philly and cuse

you’re literally the anti-christ.

But thats on the Gtown coaching staff for not having him ready to go…

This (sadly)

Lots of people were mad at the refs for that, but that’s on us.

did you ever think...

that maybe, just maybe, he lives in the central time zone?

yikes.

wrong click….meant down there vvv

dont understand what game the guy who wrote this saw

but SU dominated us in every fashion except the boards, while having one of theyre worst all around games of the season and still won. How did we look like the better team? we are just lucky they didnt blow us out which they prolly would have if they played like normal. when they took over in the second half our d was the only thing giving us a chance and thats really the only possitive i see for this team right now.

Here's the game I watched

I have a name too. It’s Mr. JGD to you, kevin66I.

We outrebounded them on both the offensive and defensive glass. We stole more balls than them, we shot a better free throw percentage than them, we outassisted them, and we had a multitude of opportunities to beat them down the stretch, particularly with close-in bunnies that we just kept missing.

Henry Sims and Mikael Hopkins went 2-20 from the field, with most of those looks coming from inside 5 feet. I think most, if not all Hoya fans, were thoroughly impressed with last night’s effort. Not to mention both SI and ESPN moved us UP in their power rankings even with the loss.

So, kevin66I, I put the ball back in your court and ask you what game YOU saw last night.

I don't get his "us" and "we" comments

He’s from Nunes. He’s an orange troll.

i think kevin66l was posting something someone else posted

but yes, this was very unclear.

It's to be expected. If I remember my childhood correctly, their heads were hollow.

Sick to my stomach

Can’t believe we lost that game

It's 9:48 pm and Georgetown still freakin sucks!
9:14 here

And they still suck!

Unless one of you is in Suriname or Venezuela... I'm going to assume tey just don't teach you how to read analog clocks at kyoos.

And by at kyoos I mean in 2nd grade and you’re dumb etc.

Sad

We don’t even have to think of ways to joke them. The drop them on our doorstep

enjoy it now , then watch you S%^& Cuse team fold come March.
Nice post JGD

Tough loss, but was very happy with how the kids played for the most part

Good game

I won’t do any trolling, but hopefully this changed your mind about wanting to continue this series.

fuck your acc big east series and your home cooking bullshit

with all due respect.

The next time we see cuse better be our MSG victory

After that, we’ll see you in Maui in 10 years.

True that

Not sure how long I can put up with your bullshit refs.

No offense to Cuse, they played great in a great game. Shame the refs wouldn’t let the players decide the outcome.

Why would it do that?

We play you to the wire in your vaunted home arena? Yeah, I really hate that. One of the best games of the year.

Worst play of the game

Was Henry not finding Hollis in the corner with a minute to go and tie game in OT, just selfish and stupid. I can deal with the misses, but that was just so dumb.

when they blocked porter

under the basket and somehow that was out of bounds on the hoyas and ’cuse ball

that kinda sucked too

100% incomprehensible.
Yo neighbor

why did you let vee leave

He wouldn't have seen PT this year anyway

Not good enough on D. These freshmen can play D, for real.

He got embarrassed a few plays before...

and wanted the glory. That’s a freshman move, Henry.

Haven't seen the box score yet

But a nice effort from Nate. Nice pic above

He definitely had a ton of hustle in the first five minutes
He played very well at the start. I don't know if that will come across in the boxscore...

but it certainly reassures people that he’s still improving, hasn’t regressed, and is capable of being a solid contributor to this team.

Re: Zone vs. Man

From what I can remember, we played man for most of the last five minutes of the game when we held them scoreless.

Would love to play this team again in New York (or Boston, for that matter). This was by far the best defensive performance we had all year, and we let one guy score 29 points. Maybe Henry will make like his classmate Greg Monroe and have a monster game in NYC after a shitty one in the Dome.

yes, we played man a decent amount in last 5 minutes of game

once cuse started screening one of our top zone defenders, they were penetrating at will. the switch to man was a good adjustment.

I just thought we'd be able to stay with Joseph more

If we stayed in zone. He scored 29, rest of team scored 35, so thought that’d be better in OT, especially when we took 61-57 lead

don't disagree

and the zone looked better with whit at the top rather than starks.

oh joseph's final 3

was is a pure man to man? or match up zone?

no sarcasm here

I'd call it a pure zone

but I was also 14 shots deep.

it was man to man

joseph went to set an off ball screen but really just floated to the corner. porter called for whit to switch off his man and follow joseph so porter could stay top of the key and take whit’s man. whit did not follow joseph and porter was left guarding no one. a shame because they played good D for 20 seconds. not sure why porter called for switch there.

Wow

Looked at box score. Not sure why Lubick played only 7 minutes, especially with Sims playing so poorly.

Also, SIMS AND HOPKINS COMBINED TO SHOOT 2-20 FROM THE FIELD

Someone talk to me about Nerlens Noel

Does he have a postup game? Can he finish from within 4 ft of the rim? Is there actually any chance he wants to be a Hoya to replace our outgoing big man who – despite a shitass performance tonight – has made epic strides?

Hopkins more troubling than Sims

Sims missed inside shots through double coverage. Hopkins BEAT Melo at least twice in the paint and couldn’t convert.

disagree

sims had a good night passing, but a terrible night with decision making on his shots. throwing up garbage near the rim and shooting fadeaway jumpers is more troubling than missing a few bunnies after taking it to the rim and beating your man

agree

Sims wanted to take the game winners at end of regulation and end of game despite having open teammates.

If he had

made the shot – we’d call it senior leadership.

Still would've been a "NONONOYES!!" moment

if he didn’t actually go to the basket. For me, at least. Like those unbelievably deep threes that Jason took and hit 2/3 of.

I don't think we disagree

Me saying he shot into double coverage was me saying I didn’t like his shot selection. It looked out of control and forced.

More commenting on how Hopkins might have had the best footwork performance against Melo of anyone who’s played him and didn’t finish, unfortunately. Still so impressed by him the last few games.

we are on same page

impressed by all the freshmen.

Hoyas will be tuff out in March

This loss actually will move them up in the polls ! This team is mentally tuff and smart.
Certainly need more from Hank. But they will be a tuff out in the BE Tourney and in March. They remind me of some of Pop’s team. They don’t back down or take shit from anyone !

Look how Baylor turned into wussies tonight vs. KU !

Did anyone see Greg;s monster slam tonight vs NJ ?

Just saw ESPN stats

Joseph scored 29 points. The rest of the team? 35. Holy crap, why was he wide open AGAIN to hit that game winner

Otto and Whitt

Got caught watching the ball, Joseph leaked out for open three.

that winner was sooo painful
silver lining

ESPN had to wait to show the tip for Duke vs. UNC (can they both lose?)

Seriously though, as has been said, we looked great tonight. I just wish there’d been a final shot for us instead of whatever bullshit we saw instead. Revenge Road 2K12?

And I wish Hollis had been in the game, too.

That rule is always bent. Always. Every single basketball game ever.

You guys will rock

The New and Improved C-USA. Seriously, you thought you would win???

up 2 with the ball, and a questionable charge call

in all reality, you should have destroyed us. So go back to your own blog.

Whaaaaaaaa!
Did you even watch the game?

Hoyas were the better team. And given that the game was played in the Dome, you guys really weren’t so hot. Guarantee you the rest of the nation was more impressed with the Hoyas tonight than with your team.

I'm not with the troller

But ‘better team’ is debatable. Neither team shot well from anywhere, whether that was b/c of defense or nerves or whatever. Cuse got killed on the boards but that didn’t translate to many points. 14 TOs for you is lower than our usual, we didn’t get our fast break going. I found it a pretty crappy performance on both sides. Sim 1-12? Waiters 3-12? 14 bench points for us? It was awful. Why did Starks keep bombing? Why can’t we rebound?

In 3 weeks no one outside of this rivalry remembers anything but the ‘W’. And yes, we should’ve destroyed you, at home, being #2 in the nation. We’ll take the win and, being rivalry week, we won’t take much of a hit against us. If this was Depaul or USF, it’s a catastrophe.

Pretty fair points

I thought the defense on both sides was good, which probably contributed in part to offenses being off. I think rather than saying Gtown was the “better team,” I would be more comfortable saying we could have won in regulation. But to each his own. Came down to Sims not being able to finish on the second to last play, and then the missed three by Scoop(?).

it was a game played at Georgetown's pace also.

on their court, we forced them to play at our pace, we limited turnovers, and if there were a game next week between the two squads on a neutral court, i’d be damn confident saying the line should be at zero or g’town could even be favorites.

Jesus Christ

Do you know the difference between ‘Whaaaaaaaa’ and ‘Waaaaaah’? Moron.

Pathetic

Troll attempt man. Come back when you are able to string together sentences that help lead to a conversation. Ill wait…….could be here a while

I'm really amazed that you're crowing over that win.

If you think you can make us feel like shit or convince us you’re better, you can’t. That game played to the level of the rivalry.

One other worry

Our sophomore class. Lubick and Starks barely played tonight, and we need them going forward – this year and beyond

Please tell me you're allowed to do a real Casual Awards

after Keeley and Glaud write their own award in the blood of their own aborted children.

You poor guy

Run out of booze at your place?

????????????

I have a BS from Georgetown and a job, you stupid fuck.

Which means I have 5 handles of above average liquor in my freezer.

Continue licking hobo excrement from the concrete sidewalk of your low income housing sidewalk. But don’t think so a second I’m anywhere near as destitute as you.

dude

this troll isnt worth it.

OY

sometimes I need to learn to head my own advice.

we all give in to tempation on occasion...

go mix yourself another. and get the ibuprofen & gatorade ready for tomorrow.

Love you!

Good chance I’m old enough to be your father. And…hold a grad degree from Michigan…retired (at 46)…and still could kick your ass. But…that doesn’t matter. My team did it for me. Sweet dreams Wallace (by the way, watched my Wallace smoke you on ECL today, 1/30/95…or are you too young to remember??)

I WILL miss you guys.

michigan, huh

you really have great taste in climate zones

Dude find a hobby

Jesus christ what are you 70? Try knitting or bingo or playing with yourself while thinking of fab melo. Honestly whatever floats your boat

46+?! Wow.

You really are a loser behaving the way you do on basketball blogs. Grow up and get a life man.

"Good chance I'm old enough to be your father"

All I needed to know. Wow, that’s sad. Give me stately historical Hoyas like sleepy, bashful and old hoyas who can throw down in the bar but represent well and not someone who’s sitting at home with a whiteboard tallying up how many times he’s “burned” us tonight.

And hell, give me the boys from Nunes and Suxa…I think I respect THOSE guys more.

Also I hope you have a daughter and she goes to Cuse

And becomes best friends with the entire basketball team. And not just the friend that does their homework. The friend that hangs out at their house and goes to parties with them. Karma at its finest. That is if she is able to get the 800 score on the SAT’s to get in there

Well, I was 7 in 1995, so no, keep trying with the insults though

Hopefully, when I’m 46, i’ll be less concerned about trolling message boards and more concerned about performing life-saving surgery. I’m sure cuse get’s 88% of premeds into med schoo, right?

Hahaha "and still could kick your ass," really?

Ok, buddy. My e-peen is bigger than your e-peen. Talking smack about the game is one thing, but trying to throw your weight around via internet is just pathetic. You really wanna prove you’re tough, throw down in person instead of online.

Sad truth:

Pretty certain my dad could kick his ass.

I could kill him.

Lets just throw in a Perkins

And make it a party

Ladies and gentlemen

We have the Syracuse version of Paul Christoforo

So -

he probably lived through all the early 80’s beatdowns with first hand memories. that doesn’t excuse his behavior, but lets us undrstand it..

Wow

Went from feeling angry to feeling sad real quick with that comment.

Your handle makes me laugh

Me gusta

OH. MY. LORD.

Wallace, you don’t have a loaded firearm nearby do you? I’m angry too but that blast was…disturbing. I’m afraid there may be gunplay tonight at your household.

Go with God my son. Hoya Saxa.

The only firearm I have in my house

is an open handle of Evan Williams.

Choke in March Cuse...you can easily see this coming
ESPN highlights a raw steaming pile of horseshit

Highlights could at least reflect the flow of the game

You mean the end?

When you LOSE?

We mean the part where you bribed/threatened the refs to give you all the calls, troll
wow we held the supposedly best offense in the big east to 34% fg percentage
Ummm

and that what happened?

was this supposed to be a sentence?

sorry, it usually helps if you have a verb in there somewhere….

Take your bias out for a second

you were 9.5 point favorites, and we lost by 3 in OT. Wake up buddy, go back to your own blog, and enjoy the ACC

It's a deal

If you enjoy the new C-USA. Shake?

I'm still deciding

If there is something wrong with you. It is really impolite to make fun of mentally challenged kids

My son has a disability

But I’ll let that one go. You guys never struck me as actually living the Jesuit dream.

Well as St. Ignatius advocated in the Spiritual Exercises

“When one’s team cops a win, thou must waste one’s life trolling thine enemy’s internet message board, and nary shall thou take random offense to one’s offspring without claiming thy false high-horse.”

Off with you.

To which I would say

You lost. Go to bed. Which I will do. With a W.

With dreams of Hoyas crushed in my head.

Best kids. Good night.

Ha!

See…it worked!

I WISH I could sleep

But I have to go to the ICU to treat these sicknasty burns you’ve been laying on me all night.

Ouchie.

And you not going to a Jesuit college

excuses you from being an ass on internet boards?

Chris Wright Heart of a Champion goes to FAB MELO
Heart of a flopper maybe...

Joseph had a fabulous game. He is the only reason Douche a l’Orange won this game. Melo was lucky to not have fouled out after ~35 minutes (every questionable charge/block went his way).

Stuffed Sims at the end of the game
That wasn't questionable: A fair block.

My point was: Had he received the equivalent treatment that Sims’ received, he would’ve already fouled out. I know, hypotheticals are challenging for Syracuse grads, try to keep up.

The thing about hypotheticals... they're for losers to contemplate.
And observations...for the guilty to forget.
Syracuse...

A+ in critical thinking.

and gullible policeman.

No, really, pretend to be a French diplomat. Totally works.

What is there were no hypotheticals?

Syracuse fans’ and robots’ brains melts

I'm just glad I didn't say "counterfactual"

There would’ve been some frantic googling in the 315.

Keep em' coming kids

You’re a tickle

If only they let you check your phone behind the counter at Taco Bell...

…you could get your fill all day tomorrow.

I know, I know, over-used Syracuse joke. But in all seriousness maybe it’ll brighten your day like that time you got your Syracuse acceptance letter and thought you were going to be a sports broadcaster when you grew up.

On the basketball front, I could not be happier that you are so happy with a win like that.

Please...

Give the man his due. He’s surely an assistant producer of the 4:00 am news at WXLV Greensboro/Winston Salem, third highest-rated early morning news broadcast in North Carolina’s third biggest media market.

As a Winston-Salem native and a proud Hoya alum

I absolutely love this comment, sir.

Whoa whoa whoa

He’s RETIRED, man. AND he could beat me up. Stop baiting him!!

You still up?

Aren’t the movers coming tomorrow? I know, rage has a tendancy to keep me up late too. Wanted that game badly, but I feel good about the team overall.

Since no one tried to kill me with alcohol as feared....

I don’t mind still being up. I can answer the door tired, I cannot (or rather, SHOULD not) answer the door hungover in facepaint.

I'm hoping for a rematch on neutral ground in the BET

When cuse can’t bribe the refs we will win by 7.

It was garden variety home cooking

But let’s not paint the piucture of a Rutgers-esque CONSPIRACY.

Fact is, it’s a game we should have won but didn’t due to our own mistakes. We see this team again on a neutral court and we’ll dole out a vicious mushroom slap like none other. Porter was a grown-ass man tonight.

porter was a beast

I don’t think we get to keep him all four years…

I think gtwn wins on a neutral court

well if one does want to start spouting conspiracy theories

worth noting that three of the most questionably reffed games this year have been Syracuse games (vs WVU, Marquette, and Gtown) and all three times the calls have been pro-Syracuse

Good assessment IMO

Also, mushroom stamp. Hehe.

Agree.

Thought reffing was fair enough through regular time, and only in OT did it become questionable. Still, we had many chances to win that game.

Don’t know how many times Sims got fouled down low and refs don’t call anything.

Yah about that

Sims needs to cancel his credit cards, I’m pretty sure they grabbed his wallet too

lol

He didn’t play well at all tonight.

One redeeming part of the evening.

I got a Casual Hoya headband at Iron Horse in the toss out.

Thanks for making the night bearable Casual Hoya.

The ginormus headband box

Salutes you

Refball

Nothing more to say.

Great job to the players on both teams, a big “Sorry about your life” to the Cuse trolls.

So,,,,

who’s coming up to Providence?

Will be there

Got a big group comin from the Georgetown Club of Boston

heartbreak

Total shit way to lose, but I love this team. That was a great game in a tough environment. The freshman looked very good. On a neutral court – we win. See you in MSG .

Only player who had less than a "B"-game was Sims.

As a senior, I can’t give him better than a C+.

Everyone else had a B or better…

HDC Award

To the asshat in the Big East scheduling office who thought it best not to give us another shot at Cuse at home. An annual home and home for the conference’s biggest rivalry would seem like a no brainer to me

Fan fury aside

Syracuse can’t control the refs, and we got a great game to watch tonight. Result is tough to swallow but in a lot of ways this may have been the best game we played as a team all year. I hope they take the anger and frustration of this loss and turn it into a real run.

How in the world did UNC let that game get away from them

Also fun to see John Cahill screwing up an ACC game. Is Cuse taking him with them??

Fantasy...

Broad Street Brilly streaks down the lane for the tying layup with zeroes on the clock against Kentucky in this year’s national title game. Cahill overruled by a competent referee to call the foul and put Brilly on the line for the title-clinching free throw. Brilly swishes it for the win.

Brilly proceeds to elbow Cahill in the face, then drags his sack across his shattered skull before proper celebration begins.

After a homecoming parade through DC, Brilly travels to Bristol CT and slaps Gottlieb in public.

I have issues.

Jesus christ, Duke just won on a buzzer beater

Today is so shitty.

Cue

how could you argue against an undefeated team being a 1 sead

Tonight's loss

has me in a funk. Not thinking clearly

^^ this

My Thoughts

I’m extremely encouraged by this result, despite the loss. If you would have told me that we would have a possession with a chance to win, I would take it. Sims and Clark were out for extended periods in the 2nd half, and we stayed in the game. Sims and Hopkins go 2-20 from the field, and we lose by 3. This is really encouraging for me, and I have no doubt the guys will bounce back and win on Sunday.

2-20, oof

I love Sims, and he really has made amazing strides this year. But man, I wish he would go to the basket with some freaking authority once in a while instead of taking jumpers.

Even when he did go to the basket, he couldn't put it up & in for any layups. Nevermind a dunk.

Hopkins had the same problem in the second half. Incredibly frustrating.

the refs were not calling anything, either
I have to say this is the best I've felt after a syracuse loss ever... but still

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gO7uemm6Yo

Kinda summarizes my feelings at the moment.

Stuart Scott just likened Duke's propensity to fire from three to Adele...

“They’re ‘Rollin’ in the Deep.’ "

So HDC.

Big Losers tonight:

3. Scoop Jardine. Played like shit.

2. Henry Sims. Played like shit.

1. THE BIG EAST. OH MY GOD. HOW ARE WE NOT PLAYING AT VERIZON IN MARCH??AS?D?ASDEHRBIWJQHDGRS

and we’re surprised the BE is dying…

I'm concerned about starks
Young pointguard trigger happy against zone...

He had a few shots in the first 5 minutes that were unadvisable… has a few shots in the NEXT 5 minutes that were wide-open set up 3s.

Someone that was more sober than me can comment on the rest of the game.

Remember how upset we were that we lost out on Rakeem Christmas

we never would have gotten Otto, if we didn’t lose out on Rakeem (who played 3 minutes tonight, and had a big fat goose eggs across the board, except for a personal foul)

recruiting is a nasty thing

we should know that rankings are meaningless based on our class of 08

Xmas doesnt get minutes because of Fab

Xmas will be a force in the years to come

LOVE THIS

JT55iVe: We lost that game, we beat ourselves… On another note, everybody sees that we ain’t playing around, we tryna win this sh*t!

Great attitude

What a fan wants to see

perfect tone

exactly what hoya fans should be thinking

stop hating on sims or whoever else. we are IN THIS THING and delusion should be taking OVER

Cuse fans saying refs called a fair game. Lol

would you expect anything different?

their last two home games have been officiating disasters.

Yea. Couldn’t agree more

frustrating game

because we should have won. but pretty damn impressed we played a lineup consisting of four freshman for most of the second half and challenged the #2 team in the country on their home court.

just unfortunate that the refs didnt let a shot decide the game – both in the case of sticking to a rule that is rarely used with regards to hollis, and not calling a held ball when jason was fighting for the ball.

i was not that impressed with cuse. i think the georgetown zone really exposed the fact they have no set offense and you can methodically pick apart the zone. kris joseph was outstanding tonight, gotta hand it to him.

Eh, gotta be fair...

Frustrating game because we **COULD have won.

At a neutral site we win that overtime 66%/34%, But I don’t know if it’s fair to say we SHOULD have won.

So I never heard the explanation

Why Hollis wasn’t allowed back in. What happened? No mention of it anywhere in ESPN coverage.

the horn sounded for check in. normally, ESPECIALLY AFTER TIMEOUTS, they just blow the horn again and let players get in. not this time, for some unbelievable reason.

Last possession should of been called for something. I thought Clark was getting fouled. But can’t expect refs to be fair after they helped Cuse all game.

eh

it is what it is. home teams normally get favored. we can argue for the next 2 weeks about how the game would have went if melo got the same treatment sims got (note: he would have 15 fouls).

gtown had the opportunity to win but slipped up in the end – henry not finding the open shooters and trying to do it all himself, otto and whit not communicating where joseph was on the game winning shot.

i was really excited to see what play jt3 drew up for hollis at the end of the game. reminded me of the bama game. guess we’ll never know since the refs decided to take an inexcusable role in the game.

officiating has been absolutely atrocious this year – across all teams. i hope they leave with cuse and pitt.

If anything just makes me excited for a rematch in B.E.T.

BREAKING NEWS

Markel Starks is running for GUSA VP. Campaign just started.

Please tell me you're kidding...
totally serious

I think he will fare better for Sims to be honest…. how well depends on his running mate.

moving forward

we are officially through the toughest part of our schedule. we only play one more ranked team (although ND should also be ranked).

sitting at 8-4 now with 6 games left, i think we gotta go 5-1 to guarantee ourselves a first round bye.

Hopefully

By now the players should have it drilled into their skulls that every game requires 40 minutes of the utmost effort. If the last couple games are any indication, we definitely could go 5-1. But, you know…one game at a time, and other sports cliches.

or 45 minutes

from time to time.

Biggest disappointment was not getting to see a huge and completely amped up Iron Horse crowd EXPLODE if we had pulled that off.

Very excited to see as many years as we can get out of Otto. And Jabril is going to be the heart and soul of this team for years to come. To quote wisdom – we tryna’ win this shit.

Looking forward to the big east tourney
Figured out why you lost

It was that horrible neon yellow shoe laces…. I’ve seen that color used 3 times (oregon in NC football game, Cuse lax vs Duke, and you guys tonight) and everyone resulted in that team losing….. So go ahead blame Nike. We might be able to at least agree on that

Heh

If it really was the shoes, I’d take the neon yellow any day – fared better in them than we did in the pink breast cancer awareness shoes.

overtime

reminded me of the OT game 2 years ago at the Dome when Freeman hit the foul-line jumper to put us up 1 with about 2 or 3 to go but then we gave up a big three on the other end and couldnt keep up.

I was disappointed but not disheartened by the result— mostly just frustrated that Joseph was that open, especially because he was wide open two sequences prior and missed a three pointer a bit long from that exact same spot.

I want to echo, St. Petersburg Hoya’s comments from the other thread about the refs— there was definitely some home cooking, but that’s to be expected and I thought the Hoyas fought through that valiantly. I have problems when you dont get benefit of the doubt on stuff like the substitution fiasco at the end, or the last play where they coulda called it a foul on Cuse, out of bounds on Cuse, a tie-up (our possession, and thus getting Hollis in with 4 seconds to play and rectifying that mistake) or the least likely scenario, out of bounds on Gtown. Tough to swallow.

Ultimately, Cuse played well enough to win and made some plays so hats off to them. We had chances, but missed some shots, didn’t hit open guys, broke down on defense and missed a key free throw. When those things happen — and they will with such a young team still — expect to lose.

As for the trolls, it’s always funny to me when they come on after the game acting like such tough guys when you know full well they were pacing around the room, yelling at the tv and biting their teeth in the last minutes of regulation and ot when the outcome was very much in doubt. Woulda loved to have last night but there’s a lot of basketball yet to be played, and we’ll see how loud they are when this becomes a regular season game that fades into memory and all is said and done….

Officials wouldn't let

GTown player in…..Coaching gaffe. Player could enter where there a stop in the game for virtually any other reason.

Great game. I kept telling your team at the game that they sucked, I guess they listened!

I guess that’s it! Hopefully we see you in the BET?

Serious question

Can anyone explain why Hollis wasn’t allowed in at the end of the game?

Didn't check in before the scorer's horn

Some debate over whether that is shady or not, since some posters have maintained it’s the kind of situation where the player will usually be allowed to check in and then they will sound the horn again, particularly after time outs. Ultimately, the rule is the rule – tough time for the refs to follow the letter of the law, but not something I’ll complain about, personally.

I will. the scorekeeper's horn sounds multiple times quite frequently

that the scorekeeper decided not to re-fire the horn DURING A TIMEOUT is absurd.

why this time did they make that decision? why’d the scorekeeper have an early horn? they followed the letter of the law, but not the spirit nor its normal use.

is that the one official

that Syracuse actually is paying?

Felt like we were

5 against 8 towards the end there last night.
Can’t want to see these guys again at the BET.

Just going to leave this here
