The Casual Awards: Yes We Can!

The Georgetown Hoyas took its first step to NCAA Tournament glory yesterday by crushing the Belmont Bruins by a score of 74-59 to advance to a showdown with N.C. State tomorrow afternoon. Though we here at THE GLOBAL PHENOMENON would love the chance to relax after the win and drink a few cold ones on this glorious St. Patrick's Day, we won't stop 'cause we can't stop so instead we're handing out some hardware to those most deserving.

Belmont University has been Casual'd.

The Chris Wright Heart of a Champion Award:
Jason Clark. It's amazing how much better this team looks when Clark is on his game. Clark put the Hoyas on his back early and often, finishing with a game high 21 points on 9-12 shooting and just two turnovers in 34 minutes. This is the Jason Clark that Georgetown will need to advance to delusional distances in this Tournament, and hopefully he has put his uninspiring Big East Tournament performance behind him.

The Casual Awards: Henry Sims, Otto Porter, and Kate Upton Lead Hoyas Into Big East Quarterfinals

I Wanna Rock Award. (Photo by Jim McIsaac/Getty Images)

The Georgetown Hoyas avenged its loss to Pitt in the regular season by bouncing the Panthers from the 2012 Big East Tournament yesterday, and as usual we here at THE GLOBAL PHENOMENON are handing out hardware to those most deserving. We've got a boatload to get to today, so on with the show!

The Chris Wright Heart of a Champion Award:
Henry Sims. What more can we say that hasn't already been said about Henry's performance yesterday? 20 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Congrats to Henry for that performance yesterday, as it certainly helped put him on the map for the NBA Draft. Having said all that, we clearly NEED MOAR SIMS if Georgetown is to get past the evil Bearcats this afternoon.

The Casual Awards: Now The Real Fun Begins

We Hate You, Jae Crowder Award.(Photo by Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images)

The Georgetown Hoyas dropped the regular season finale at Marquette on Saturday, a loss which when coupled with half a dozen other horrifying scenarios wound up costing the Hoyas the double-bye in the 2012 Big East Tournament. As the Hoyas prepare for a Wednesday tilt at Madison Square Garden against either Pitt or St. John's to kick off a glorious run through March (and April!), let's take a look back at the Marquette game and hand out some hardware to those most deserving.

The Chris Wright Heart of a Champion Award:
Otto Porter. Porter and Hollis Thompson led the Hoyas with 19 points each, but Otto gets the nod here based on his zero turnover performance and oh, the fact that he shot 9-11 from the floor. Porter has been a rock for the Hoyas all season, and even if the interns who filled out the All-Rookie Team selections for the Big East coaches were too busy picking their pimples to vote for Otto, he has clearly been one of the top few freshmen in the Conference.

Georgetown's Jason Clark, Henry Sims, and Hollis Thompson Named to All-Big East Teams

The Georgetown Hoyas' excellent season was rewarded today as three Hoyas were named to All-Big East teams. Jason Clark earned 1st Team honors, Henery Sims earned 3rd Team accolades, and Hollis Thompson was named as Honorable Mention.

Perhaps most curious however, was freshman forward Otto Porter, considered by many to be one of the top freshman in the nation, being left off the All-Rookie Team.

The Casual Awards: Georgetown Rising

Casual Mascots Award: Evan Habeeb-US PRESSWIRE

The Georgetown Hoyas put a stamp on the final home game of the season last night with a rout of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, concluding a boisterous homestand that also included a similar pasting of the Villanova Wildcats and the 3rd Annual Casual Extravaganza. Now that we here at THE GLOBAL PHENOMENON have some time to come up for air before Georgetown's next game against Marquette on Saturday, let's get to some Casual Awards, shall we? Away we go...

The Chris Wright Heart of a Champion Award:
Jason Clark. With Markel Starks on the bench and in the doghouse against Villanova, Clark took the reins at the point and guided the offense flawlessly. Against both the Wildcats and Irish, Clark finished with a total of 28 points, 12 rebounds, and an impressive 2 turnovers in 66 minutes of action. Honorable mention: Henry Sims. Both seniors rose to the occasion on the final homestand of the season, as Sims controlled the middle against Villanova and was the story against the Irish, finishing with 12 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and a get that shit out of here block.

The Casual Awards: Sucking at Seton Hall

V is for Victory Award: Jim O'Connor-US PRESSWIRE

Well, that was not good. The Hoyas were blitzed in an awful performance last night against Seton Hall, and before we can move on to Villanova and begin to discuss all things 3rd Annual Casual Extravaganza, we're handing out hardware to those most deserving. Away we go...

The Chris Wright Heart of a Champion Award:
Umm...uh...Greg Whittington? New Greg 'led' the Hoyas with 9 points in what was just a horrific showing by all involved. The real winner of this award should be Seton Hall's Jordan Theodore, who willed the Hall to victory and perhaps the NCAA Tournament with an incredible 29 point outburst on 8-11 shooting from the floor and a whopping 5-5 from three. No one was beating Jordan Theodore last night. No one.

The Casual Awards: Hoyas Dunk Friars

Happy President's Day everybody! As your Georgetown Hoyas are currently in the great state of New Jersey getting ready for the game against Seton Hall tomorrow, we're taking a look back at the big win against Providence at The Dunkin' Donuts Center on Saturday night and handing out some hardware to those most deserving. Away we go...

Chris Wright Heart of a Champion Award:
Hollis Thompson. Hollis reluctantly earns the nod with a 13 point and 10 rebound performance, including that three at the halftime buzzer that plunged a dagger into Providence's cold heart. Nate Lubick was on pace to win this award early on but foul trouble prevented him from swishing a few more threes and delivering earth-shattering THUNDERSNOWS in his homecoming to the New England area.

The Casual Awards: A Tribute to Whitney Houston

The Georgetown Hoyas took care of business against St. John's at the Verizon Center yesterday but let's face it, the news of Whitney Houston's death the night before clearly impacted both the play of the teams on the court and the number of fans in the stands. Today, we celebrate the triumphant return of The Casual Awards back on THE GLOBAL PHENOMENON by paying tribute to the dearly departed Whitney Houston. Away we go...

We will always love you, Whitney Houston.

I Will Always Love You Award:
Nate Lubick! Lubick earns the award formerly known as the Chris Wright Heart of a Champion Award for his gritty play and stat-stuffing game against St. John's yesterday. 7 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 blocks! Yippee! I hope life treats you kind. And I hope you have all you've dreamed of. And I wish to you, joy and happiness. But above all this, I wish you love.
