Georgetown's poor performance against Pitt brought out a lot of negativity from the cynical yet delusional Hoya fanbase, a fanbase which has seemingly been spoiled by the team's strong start and nationally ranked powerhouse status. A lot of the vitriol has been aimed at sophomore forward Nate Lubick, whose poor play of late has been a lightning rod for those who believe that replacing him in the starting lineup with freshman sensation Otto Porter gives the Hoyas a better chance to win. Since I know for a fact that JT3 listens to the suggestions put forward by THE GLOBAL PHENOMENON and its Casualties, before we get to UConn tomorrow let's take today to ponder the question further.

For those of you coming to see the Georgetown Hoyas play St. John's on Sunday, the good folks at Tribeca Tap House are hosting us tomorrow night right after the Casual THUNDERTRAIN rolls into New York. The evening starts at 6:00pm Saturday night and will go until I get so drunk I start crying and talking about emotions.

The wizards over at Hoya Prospectus decided to compare the '11-12 Hoyas to the '07-08 Hoyas using magic numbers and fancy mathematical terms like goofiness and onions. The verdict - too similar for comfort. Especially this early in the season.
It's actually somewhat amazing how similar some of the players are in many ways. It's not surprising from one point of view; the offense and defenses are similar, the coaching staff is the same. On the other hand, the roster matches up very well in skills, ability level and role through almost every player. It's close across the board.
But Hibbert's clearly the X-Factor here. If I had to pick one clear reason why that team why I think 2007-08 will end up being a bit better in conference play it's him. But if Markel can continue to shoot like this; if Jason Clark gets hot; if Sims holds up better in conference play than I expect; if Lubick recovers or Hopkins steps up, the story at then end of the year might be different.

The Georgetown Hoyas are a Nationally Ranked Powerhouse, this much we know and is certain. This week the Hoyas held steady in the AP poll at 16th in the country and rose up one spot in the Coaches Poll from 17th to 16th.
The out of conference schedule is almost over and Georgetown is getting set to dive into the meat of the schedule. The next two games, a rematch with Memphis and a date at #4 Louisville are arguably Georgetown's toughest two game stretch of the season (although I'd put it second to at #15 Pittsburgh followed by hosting #8/9 Connecticut). However, before we move on to examining our upcoming games, let's take our weekly breakdown of how the voters view the Hoyas and the rest of the college basketball landscape.

As the Hoyas prepare for the second showdown with the Memphis Tigers on Thursday, we here at THE GLOBAL PHENOMENON feel that this is a good time as any to gauge how Hoyas fans feel about Georgetown's long-term prospects this season. Win or lose against the Tigers, the Hoyas will be entering Big East play having blown the door off early season expectations and will carry a national ranking next to its name when Georgetown opens Big East play against the Louisville Cardinals.
