Sleeping with the Enemy: The Pirates of Seton Hall

The Georgetown Hoyas take on the Seton Hall Pirates tonight in lovely Newark, New Jersey in the penultimate regular season road game for the boys in blue and gray. For the Pirates, this game is, in the words of Rachel Zoe - everything. A win will give the Pirates a much-needed victory over a ranked opponent and help boost its resume to be a bubble team in the NCAA Tournament. Lose, and the Pirates will need a marquee win in the Big East Tournament to enter the discussion. Here to dish on all things Pirate is our good friend South Orange Juice, who has so graciously provided answers to our hard-hitting questions. South OJ, this Corona is for you. Ahoy!

Gun to your head - does Seton Hall make the tournament this year?

I see what you did there. Is that question prefaced the same for every bubble team that participates in your Q&As? I'm willing to bet it's not. I'll play along and the answer is yes. Ending the season with DePaul and Rutgers, coupled with a soft bubble gives me reason to believe that the Pirates will dance for the first time since 2006.

Sleeping with the Enemy: The Red Storm of St. John's

Now that some time has passed to let the wounds heal after the overtime thriller at Syracuse, we're ready to move forward to Georgetown's next opponent, the St. John's Red Storm. Special thanks to our jovial Johnnies friend Rumble in the Garden, who is back for another round of Casual Q&A and share everything he knows about all things Stormy. Since the Hoyas throttled St. John's at the Garden in January, this round's on us.

What's changed since we've last seen one another?

Maurice Harkless a/k/a Moe a/k/a So Harkless has had a trio of big scoring games. D`Angelo Harrison is stroking it from outside. Phil Greene is looking more confident as a scoring point/ combo guard type. Outside of that, not much has changed... except the loss of another player, because that's how it rolls this season. The veteran guard, Malik Stith, decided to leave the team for reasons that seem unclear. He wasn't, you know, that effective - see his multi-zero stat lines - but a 6 man squad has to hold back for fear of wheezing and coughing their way up the court in the second half. Also: the Johnnies tasted hope against Duke and West Virginia, but were fed a heaping of SIT DOWN, YOUNG'IN from Syracuse and Cincinnati.

The season seems long and there's not enough gin. Or things to mix gin with.

It appears that you guys have really found your way since the start of Big East play. Do you see this continuing for the next 9 games? What do you think your final record will be in conference play?

There's no way we finish Big East play at 12-6. We have two against Pitt, @ Georgetown, @ Syracuse, West Virginia, @ Louisville, Cincinnati, Villanova, and @ Providence left. If we can find six wins out of that, Stan Heath should be awarded Big East Coach of the Year no questions asked.

I think we will end up at 9-9. We should be able to beat Providence, Villanova, and at least split the Pitt home and home. Anything more than that is an added bonus.

Sleeping with the Enemy: The Huskies of Connecticut

The Hoyas begin a key stretch of the season tonight with a showdown against the defending National Champion UConn Huskies at the Verizon Center, and as usual we here at THE GLOBAL PHENOMENON are bringing you everything you've ever wanted to know about Georgetown's next opponent. Special thanks to our homeslices at The UConn Blog, the best damned spot for all things UConn on the internet. Gentlemen, this Heineken is for you.

Hello! via ww2.hdnux.com

When the season started, I told anyone who cared to listen to me that there were five absurdly talented teams, and then a bunch of decent teams behind them that couldn't hold a candle. Four of those five teams are about where they should be (Kentucky, Ohio State, Syracuse, and UNC), and UConn is close to falling out of the top 25. What has happened?

You sound like every UConn fan I know and we're all asking the same question. I think some part of it probably relates to inconsistency with personnel. Ryan Boatright has become a key part of the team, but he's missed nine games over two separate NCAA suspensions. Jim Calhoun got sat down for three games as well mid-year and interruptions like that can really knock a team out of rhythm.

I think the team is also still adjusting to life without Kemba Walker. On paper the team has more talent than it did last year, but it's not concentrated in the same way. Shabazz Napier, for all his good qualities, isn't the same player as Walker, and when he tries to be mistakes happen.

It's also a very young team, UConn has no seniors, has one (incredibly underperforming) junior in the form of Alex Oriakhi and then a bunch of sophomores and freshman. I've spent the whole season watching the team hoping that somehow it's all going to fit together and click, but it hasn't yet.

How excited are you for the Mike Rice era? How would you rate his performance thus far on a scale of 1-10?

I am extremely excited for the Mike Rice era. It's gotten off to a great start so far. He's recruited better than any coach I've seen at Rutgers, he has the team playing tough. Last year they played some great organized offensive basketball and some tenacious defense. This year, the team seems like it's finally starting to buy in. His performance thus far is an 8 (10 means NCAA Tournament.)
